Real Madrid Club de Fútbol, or Real Madrid, , or locally "Los Blancos" and also "Los Merengues", or MORE simply, just "Real", is the premier Madrid football club - and arguably, in Spain. Real Madrid is commonly regarded as one othe world's best football clubs - although often hated for their success. But the Real Madrid supporters range in the millions across the world. Their traditional rivals are FC Barcelona and also cross-town rivals Atlético de Madrid - but more the former than the latter.
The Real Madrid team was founded in 1902 and has the honor to claim being "the most successful football club of the 20th century". Their championships have been many and impressive, including a record 30 in La Liga, 17 for the Copa del Rey, 8 Supercopa de Espańa, 1 Copa de la Liga, a record 9 UEFA Champions League, 2 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, and 1 European Super Cup trophies. Their many football championships are as storied as their players, greats including the current phenoms Sergio Ramos, the captain Raúl, vice-captain Iker Casillas, & Robinho. Recent greats for the team include David Beckham & Roberto Carlos to name only a few of the many.
Their home football stadium is the world reknowned Santiago Bernabéu Stadium with a capacity crowd of 80,400 persons. Santiago Bernabeu was built in 1947 and is located within the city of Madrid, on the corner of La Castellana and Avenida de Concha Espina. It also has it's own metro station named after it; Metro Santiago Bernabeu. The stadium houses not only the popular Real Madrid Museum but also a large memorabilia shop. All of the Real Madrid football games can be heard LIVE in Spanish (sorry, no English as far as I'm aware) via many of the Madrid and Spain radio stations like Radio Nacional de Espańa, Radio Marca Digital, & Onda Madrid Radio to name only a few. These can be found on the MadridMan.com Madrid Radio, TV, Music, & Movies page. No games are broadcast on internet television stations in Madrid or Spain due to the whole commercial rights industry. In fact, the trend is going away from showing football games on local, free Spanish television at all. Now most Real Madrid football games are televised only on Canal+ cable TV or pay-per-view.
