I urgently need a cheap hotel/pension for 1 night on Friday 29th June. Everywhere I try seems to be booked. Does anyone know a place that may have availability?

I was looking at the Gran Via/Cheuca area.

Did you try to find a place to stay not in the city centre?. You could also look for a hotel in Madrid sorroundings, there good transports to/from the city.

Damien, I think you're having some trouble due to timing. The HUGE EuroPride '07 (Gay Pride Europe), June 29 to July 1, takes place in Madrid this year. http://www.madoweb.com/2007/ - http://www.europridemado2007.com .

We're not going to know which places might or might not have a room available because, well, except for ONE of us, no one here works for/with hotels/pensions in Madrid.

Tell us which places you've tried so we don't repeat ourselves. My first thoughts for the Chueca area goes to the following hostels "hostales":

While anything remotely near Chueca/Gran Via are probably all booked, try for places NOT near there, as Valenciano_en_Madrid suggests. Try Huertas or Calle de Atocha. Or try Hostal Cantábrico near the Puerta del Sol. There, they have about 110 rooms at good prices.

It may have some rooms available, you wil need to ask them. It'wasn't anything special, It was basic but clean.

We usually use www.booking.es but having checked the weekend mentioned there does appear to be a dearth of available rooms. It depends on your definition of cheap. There are rooms for a about 60€ inthe Campemento area. So would be easy to get to the centre of town during the day and if you are returning late not too eypensive by taxi.

It seems Damien has not returned to this thread since he made the initial posting.

I'd wondered if he'd found a place. And if so, where/how as others have been asking me the same question.

That weekend must be impossible to get any place in Madrid. It is not only the Europride, but the Rolling Stones' concert at Vicente Calderon on Friday.

I wonder if there will be air enough in Madrid for all of us next weekend...

Oh good gawd. Are you serious? The Stones are playing that Friday too? ¡JO***! Let's see if they show up this time. hehehe... :p NO WONDER everyone's scrambling to get lodging that weekend.

Yeah, I'm serious... but wrong. It's not Friday, but Thursday the 28th. Anyway, it's the same: solid booked hotels, hostals, and I'd say that it would be difficult to find a place under any bridge.
