Since I did get so many fantastic ideas from my “Suggestions for Day Trips from Madrid” message, thank you all, I decided to ask the same question for Barcelona. I will be visiting Barcelona before flying to Madrid in early October of this year.

Been to Montserrat and will do it again just for the mountain views. This time I am bringing my lunch for a lunch with a view. Now I have to figure out where to get a lunch to take out.

I have alreadt visited Sitges and going to be visiting Fiqueres for Dal on this trip.

So what else should I visit and would be idea to photograph?

Bill

We were just in Sant Feliu and the beach of Sant Pol. They are an 1- 1 1/2 hours north of Barcelona and are very beautiful. The beach is edged by rocky coasts with apartment buildings and resorts visible. There is a church and monastery in Sant Feliu, that were partially destroyed - I think during the Civil war. It was all beautiful!

We were also in a little village called Els Prats de Rei (Fields of the King in Catalan). It is a small village of about 400 people. It was a bright sunny day and the town was bright, untouched by commercialism, unspoiled. Some locals were gathered around a little tavern for the afternoon. There was a pretty little church - only saw the out side.

We basically encircled Monserrat on our little travels that day and came back into Barcelona from the south. I'm sorry I cannot give you any type of directions, other than we took freeway north and then country roads on the way to Els Prats De Rei and more country roads back to Barcelona.

This trip is to my favorite European cities. In late September starting with Lisbon(5Days) then fly to Barcelona (7Days) and end in Madrid(6Days). So yes I have a nice combination.

Jamom. I checked your recommendations. You are a real travel explorer. But I not ready to use a car yet for my travels. I know it will be in my future travels, get a car to visit the small towns and countryside of Spain and of course Portugal too. It will be the only way for me to say, I seen Spain, I seen Portugal.

Bill, There may be tours that take you to the wine country of Catalunya, maybe for a day to get you out into the countryside or a bus to Sant Feliu. I'm not really sure how to look for it. Maybe someone else on this site can help with that information.

I must say we did not do this on our own. We were taken on the tour by the family of our former exchange student. Els Prats de Rei in the hometown of the Mother.

It was all so interesting and to visit the beach on the Mediterranean, something thatis is a dream.

I want to go to Els Prats de Rei! It sounds utterly fantastic! One more place for my 'bucket list' for my next trip. Jacmom, do you have any pics you can post?

Years ago we stayed in Barcelona and took a drive through the mountains to Andorra which was quite interesting. We decided to stay overnight there and go back to barcelona the following day. I think there are tour companies that also organize day trips.
