I'm SO proud of myself!! I just watched the last half-hour of the movie "Gitana" (1965) on DCine Español (TV) and I recognized the famed flamenco dancer, "El Güito" - whom I've seen dance live so many times since moving to Madrid. So I was sitting there on the sofa thinking, "Hey! I think that might be "El Güito" dancing there! It kind of looks like him!" And sure enough...

The movie itself is really bad. None of the performers are actors, afterall, but flamenco singers and flamenco dancers. It takes place in Granada town of Gaudix, but several scenes take place in Granada City's Sacromonte neighborhood with the Alhambra as a backdrop.

El Güito had a scene where he was solemnly, yet energetically flamenco dancing down a lonely country highway and I thought, "Sure! Just like everyone does on their way to the market!" hahahaha....

Here's a short description of the movie's story in English:
Quote:
Malena and José are two gipsy lovers whose love is impossible: their respective families became enemies a hundred years ago...

Here's the movie's description in Spanish:
Quote:

Speaking of "El Güito", how many times have I attended flamenco shows, festivals and press conferences to turn and see "El Güito", himself, standing next to me, behind me, or near me?! One time before one of the Suma Flamenco flamenco festival shows, I stopped in at the tiny/historic bar "La Casa de las Torrijas" across the street from the old (now closed) Teatro Albéniz, and there he was, 2 feet away from me. I think this happened twice at this bar and another time at another bar before a flamenco show - oh, and a time or two AFTER a press conference, as well, for the Suma Flamenca flamenco festival. That's coming up, by the way.

remember well the Casa de las torrijas and unfortu teatro Albèniz; that is why sometimes is difficult to remember all that and see it been diminished now by some modern folks.
