A quick question on calling from within the city.

I have friends and family in Madrid and sometimes when I'm calling I get confused.

Can someone give me a quick refresher on what I have to remember when calling a movil phone or calling a land-line from Madrid.

Thanks for anything you can tell me.

if you have family they should what to dial and how in Madrid ::)

otherwise, just dial the 9 on local phones, new digit after several years now. otherwise call 090 for help on calling
if you are using an international home phone then you might need to call as if calling abroad 00 34 9.....
mobile or cellular phones have 9 digits
hope it helps

Thanks!

It's the mobil phones, that for some reason, give me troubles. Sometimes I find myself dialing 4 or 5 times before I get it right.

I make most of my calls from a land line in our apartment. Sometimes a pay phone.

It's just one of those things I haven't mastered yet.

Land line numbers have 9-digits. For Madrid, the first two digits are (91), which is the regional Madrid designation, followed by the 7-digit home/house/business number. Other regions have a different prefix.

Spanish mobile phone numbers also have 9-digits and DO NOT include any kind of regional prefix. Spanish mobile phone numbers always start with a 6 or a 7 - 7 being added in 2009. Before then, they all started with 6, but I have yet to encounter a Spanish mobile number which starts with a 7.
