Ouch!! Is this what I will face as I begin the process to obtain a residencia permit so that I may be in Spin for more than 90 days in a 180 day period. I want to retire there very soon!!! I have contacted one of the embassies here in the states via email and no response! :-)

MM, you say you "just love it" but it is SOOO discouraging and annoying how bureaucratic is all is. Dealing with the student visa for my daughter has been (and still is) extremely frustrating. Spain is one of the most popular destinations for Student Abroad programs, and yet they make it so complicated and make the process so discouraging! We are now waiting for the FBI to send her the next step (fingerprints, apostle of the Hague, etc)... it makes you believe they do not want you to come to Spain at all.
Silver Traveler, please let us know how the process goes for you. We would also love to retire in Spain in the future. How difficult is it to do these days??

Hehehe.. maybe my "Just love it!" comment was misleading. I was referring to the video, of course, but it is so-funny-because-it's-true.

I have to wonder why it takes/took 3 months to receive my Spanish medical card renewal - and yet it'll likely take only a few days/weeks to get my US Passport renewed (soon).
