There is a strike organized by employees of Madrid's metro system. This will be an all-day, total 24-hour per day strike for 28, 29, and 30 June 2010 to protest the recent salary cuts. It seems they've agreed to have "minimum service" the first day of the strike but after that they don't expect to operate at all. Great. And I'm coming back to Madrid on 30 June and had expected to use the metro home. Guess the taxis will be busier these days! Madridiario article here (in Spanish) . Saludos, MadridMan

I just got an e-mail from RENFE saying thay will be striking on the 25th of June ( tomorrow ) . Great timing and PR after what happened in Catalunya last night ! Sp also bear in mind that there's likely to be major disruption to train services just South of Barcelona . Spanish news are saying that replacement bus services will be available .
RENFE , for those that do not know , is the national train company .

Thankfully the regional (green busses) aren't on strike. I wondered what was happening, waited at Moncola for almost 15 mins for line 3 metro to show up and then it was packed, same with line 10. As well today my usual one hour journey (from Villalba to Colsada in the south) took me almost 2 hours today.
I'm really really hoping things will be back to normal on the 1st as I'm bouncing all around the city that day!

Someone told me that yesterday and the day before, the 29th & 30th, several metro lines were totally shut down and their metro station entrances gated. Today's Madridiario article on the topic says metro trains will continue to operate at 50% capacity today. No word yet about tomorrow/Friday. Cross your fingers. Saludos, MadridMan
