If you enjoy medieval history and want to see a well restored/preserved castle, check out Peñafiel, located in the town of the same name. Only guided tours are permitted, however the guides are knowledgeable and fun. You'll also find a wine museum here that's informative and interesting. Amazingly, the gift shop offers some magnificent glassware such as wine decanters and glasses that I only wish I could have sent back to the USA. (I didn't because I feared they would not survive intact. Given another chance, I'll find a worthy squire to shepherd them home on his person.)

Impressive, no? All that climbing up the stairs worked up a good appetite, which was squelched with a fine meal just down the road.

Peñafiel is nice ,its been a while for me there, too much to see in Spain.

The Peñafiel Castle in Peñafiel, Valladolid, Castilla y León, is one of Spain's best restored and most beautiful castles in my opinion. I visited there about 4 years ago.

The castle itself is basically an empty hull, having very little inside, mostly hollow, but there are a number of displays of suits of armor and period furniture.

In the hillside of the castle is where, since the beginning of time, has been home to "caves" or "bodegas" where wine IS/was fermented, stored, and aged. One can buy wine all over the place here.

If you can visit it, be sure to do so. As you seen in Admiral44's video, there are some spectacular views from above.

Great video. It is a spectacular castle, which unfortunately was shut when I got there a few years ago so it's nice to see inside it at last.
