Hi all just got back from Koln in Germany we went for the new year, we usualy go to Spain but decided on a change this year. The weather was quite cold, but wrapped up it was fine, walking along the rhine was very stimulating stopping off at the many coffee shops for a beer or two. The food was excellant and everything is exceptionaly clean, the thing that did suprize me was they still smoke in all the restaurants and bars, although ive heard that will be changing in the next 6 months or so. You forget because you are on holiday, you expect everything to be open and are able to get in restaurants as you please, but as at home at new year most things were shut and trying to book a restaurant was nigh on impossible, but we turned up early at an italian and as long as we were out within 2hrs we were fine. The firework display which i assumed would be put on by the Cologne Council was in fact was a display put on by the general public, everybody turning up with there own fireworks, which kicked off around 11 oclock and finished around 1 oclock and what a display absolutley fantastic, colourful noisy smokey it was great so thanks to the public of cologne for putting on a magnificent free firework display. Great place for a few days visit people are lovely everything is very clean, weather cold but never mind. Ive been to Germany 3 times now and i must admit the more i go the more i am getting to love the place so if you are thinking of going dont hesitate just book it highly recommended
