Does anyone know of good Bul.Boards (something informative and civilized like MADRIDMAN'S) that would provide good, practical info about Portugal?

To travel from Spain to Portugal is easy and cheap so it would be good to have some info available. I am curious in particular about Lisbon's equivalent of "hostales".

At the risk of sounding like a smart a** check out the Portugal Embassy web site it is accurate. It is like talking to a person from a chamber of commerce. Also put in Portugal into either Google Yahoo,or Altavista. Then check out www.escapeartist.com when it comes up go to the information for Portugal. It will have more than you realy want to know. I have been to Portugal a few times and stayed at a couple of good hotels (Bancotel is a good deal in Lisbon), but I was looking for something similar en content to what this board offers. Here, I think, you get more personal and "fan" like contributions. Opinions and info from people who enjoy visiting Portugal on a regular basis seem more substantial and enjoyable, not just simple listings of hotels and places to go shopping (just a personal preference).

By the way, eurocheapo.com has also some good reviews.

But might I suggest doing a google search of Potugal related blogs. I have found some interesting travel information in blogs, they generally know what is happening in their virtual space.

I guess you're hoping to find a "LisbonLady" website. Dream on. But many of us Spain addicts have spent a fair amount of time in Portugal. So, ask away. Portugal is fabulous.

Try www.tripadvisor.com They have a message board with a section on Portugal, and I have gotten some good answers to questions I have asked there.
