To Alando. I think most Americans are actually Libertarians but, because we (in general) are so politically ingorant, the vast majority of us don't know that there are options other than Republicans and Democrats. And, if we did know, the political landscape here is such that it is very difficult for a non-Dem/Repub. party to be heard.
This country never will need and never has needed another political party.
The great thing about this country is we have two political parties. To political parties in multi-ethic, multi-religious and we are big vast country that has different regions with different needs. Because we are huge and diverse and only have two political parties, this forces new immigrants to comform politically, to become American by picking one side or the other that they might not be in totally agreement. If we did not force them to choose, they would choose or start political parties that will that will provide safety and shelter because of the people pray at the same church or the come from the same country in the world.
If we had more than two political parties, in this diverse country, there would be political parties, like a Catholic Party, The Born Again Party, The Irish Party, The Caribbean Party, The Mexican party, etc, etc …. There will be so many political parties it will paralyzes government.
Look at the State of Israel and its political parties, how the minorities has dominated the government because of its swing votes that can and have determine issues that the majority does not want only because they can decide which large party is going to hold power. The settlement issues in Israel, building houses in Arabs land was because of the small right wing party, Lukid. (sp?)
Anytime I here from people that we need another political party, it because their ideas cannot fit in the Democratic/Republican party and usually there ideas are going to be reject by the most of the American people. Both parties can change if there are people who work within those political parties to make change happen.
Goldwater/Reagan made the Republican Party become more conservative. Clinton made the Democratic Party less liberal. Change can happen but is does not happen over night.
Does this country need a Green Party? A Communist Party? A Socialist Party? No! From what I have read of these political parties their failures in Europe has stopped growth and progress of many European countries and frankly many Americas will rejected there ideas.
