This thread has veered a long way from the original topic of who will help the US. Now the US has another disaster bearing down on the Texas coast. Hurricane Rita, should hit the Texas coast in a few more days. US resources then will be stretched beyond the limits. This next couple of weeks are going to be interesting to watch, and see how the current WDC mob handles, a war on two fronts, and two disasters all at the same time.

Even the best juggler will drop a ball once in a while.

I have not seen anything in the US media about destroying food from other countries. I would not put it past the FDA to do that. One time I asked a Mexican friend where is a good place to get good Mexican food in Phoenix, his reply, "you cannot get good Mexican food in the US, the health department will not let them sell it." wink

MM,

I have a much more jaundiced view of political parties, but here it goes:

Democrats: Will spend an exorbitant amount of money to get elected for a job that pays nowhere near what they spent.
Republicans: Will spend an exorbitant amount of money to get elected for a job that pays nowhere near what they spent.

Democrats: Will promise to form committees to examine the nation's problems.
Republicans: Will promise to form committees to examine the nation's problems.

Democrats: Will vote themselves hefty annual pay raises and other perks.
Republicans: Will vote themselves hefty annual pay raises and other perks.

Democrats: Will promise to save Social Security but allow themselves a far better retirement plan.
Republicans: Will promise to save Social Security but allow themsevles a far better retirement plan.

Democrats: Go somewhere on tax-funded junkets.
Republicans: Go somewhere on tax-funded junkets.

Democrats: Pontificate and blame the other party for what is wrong with the country.
Republicans: Pontificate and blame the other party for what is wrong with the country.

Democrats: Will emphatically say that they are working for YOU.
Republicans: Will emphatically say that they are working for YOU.

I suppose I could go on, but why belabor the point? In short, is there anything that these people should be allowed to manage without it getting mucked up? If anything, they are certainly good for milk-thru-the-nose amusement.

Cogito cogito ergo sum cogito

How aptly put, Pinguino. I totally agree! rolleyes

Getting back on the topic of cyclones...

Those of us that live in or near the Gulf area (like Pinguino and yours truly) are now facing a new thirty year trend cycle in devastating cyclones according to meteorologist William Gray.

Gray suggested that we entered another active period in the 1990s which will last this decade and the next! Coincidentally, Gray doesn't believe global warming affects hurricanes at all, as suggested recently by young Mr. Kennedy. It is more of a cyclical phenomena, which can be seen in this National Hurricane Center website historical table that shows the intensity of the cat. 3,4,5 storms.

In the decade of 1941-1950 there were a total of 24 cyclones, of which ten were the killer 3,4 & 5 on the saffir-simpson scale. The biggest number thus far! eek

Let's pray that Rita does not hit Texas as a category 5!

I can't resist joining this lively exchange !

The Democratic Political and Economic Manifesto:

1. The government always knows best and can help you run your life! Big government is goood!

2. Crowding poor African-Americans into crime ridden inner city high rise buildings helps them and is a form of government benevolence.

3. Paying unemployed young people to have children gives them a competitive edge in life.

4. Never hold anyone accountable for their actions. Remember, it is always the fault of someone other than the perpetrator, unless he or she is a Republican, or is the head of a corporation. When possible, blame George Bush for most things.

5. Socialist style governments that have failed all over the world and left misery in their wakes, are good role models for the USA.

6. Always admire any tin pot dictator or communist country, never mind that world communism is responsible for millions of murders. Joe Stalin was an evil monster, but after all, he was a socialist, so that makes him OK!

7. Tear down all of our informal social controls that modify behavior and promote civility, and then when people are hostile, rude, and violent, suggest more government to fix the problem, that you created.

8. Claim that all cultures and all nations are the same and of equal value. Just ignore the things that go on in third world countries that appear to contradict this.

9. Create a permanently dependent underclass and
rob people of any chance in life by destroying
their dignity and work ethic through multi-
generational welfare. They might vote for you.
10. When the facts are not on your side in any
argument, become shrill and hysterical and
claim that Republicans are trying to kill
the poor and the old people.
11. Always support your TRIAL LAWYERS and the
frivilous lawsuits that they file. Remember,
that even though lawsuits are driving up
consumer prices and destroying the quality
of life, the trial lawyers are good Democrats.
12. Corporations are inherently bad, never mind
that they employ millions and bring new
products and services to us. They should be
run by the government, so that they can be
more like the Post Office.
13. Men in powerful positions that take advantage
of knaive young women in a sexual manner are
the worst kind of criminals and deserve the
full wrath and fury of the feminists. (except
William Jefferson Clinton)
14. Religion is bad and should be kept out of the
public schools, but Gangsta Rap and violent
videos are OK. We do not want to offend our
big supporters in Hollywood.
15. Whenever there is an international crisis
involving a tin pot dictator attacking another
nation, appease, appease, appease. Never take
any decisive action. Follow Neville
Chamberlain's example.
16. Support the United Nations at all costs! After
all, they put Libya on the Human Rights
Committee, that was good!
17. Claim that you "Support Our Troops" while you
secretly work for a huge reduction in the
military, so that more money can be spent on
social welfare programs.
18. Establish clear cut Democratic heroes for the
young to admire like Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton
and Noam Chomsky.
19. Now that we Democrats have forgotten 9-11,
let's work on reducing patriotism! This flag
waving might offend illegal aliens.
20. If we can only destroy our standard of living
in the USA, then maybe the third world will
start liking us.
