Especially when it's being discovered that the local government of the Big Easy, had plenty of taxes over the years to prepare for this disaster and squandered it. Gazpacho: Go gettem buddy. All joking aside, this is going to be an economic disaster for the U.S. The increase in insurance premium alone is going to be back breaking. The additional taxes to pay this thing off, the increase cost of fuel. Then all those people out of work. The U.S. will be lucky if this does not throw us into a depression worse than the '30s. Like I said in one of my first post on this thread, it was not the Gulf Coast that was hit, it was the U.S. Everyone in the U.S. is in this thing together, finger pointing and bickering is not the answer. Bush and the Republicans in Congress were about to introduce another set of tax cuts for the rich in this country. Being in the middle class I have to pickup their tax cuts, I hardly get any because the rich gets the biggest share while I get crumbs for my share of tax cuts. Its not need that determines how big the tax cut you get it how well off you are. The better you are off the bigger the tax cut. Even if you have manage through tax loop holes not to pay any taxes you still get a tax cut in a form of a rebate.

Since Bush and the Republicans are running already a huge deficit that means were are not already paying for the war in Iraq or even in Afghanistan. President Bush and Republicans, the so call Conservatives Republicans have passed the larges highway bill in history and have expanded the Medicaid program and started the No Child Left Behind program and have not property fund it these programs. Mr. Bush wants to dismantle Social Security program by have some of the money go into Wall Street, believing that people will do better on Wall Street. Tell that to all the people that lost their saving in Enron.

As of now we are not paying the bills and the Republicans have used 9-11 as an excuse to run a deficit. Have used 9-11 to give tax cuts to the most wealthy individuals in this country and have used 9-11 as the excuse why we have a deficit. There are people in this country that honestly believe the 9-11 cause the deficit and not George Bush's spending programs and tax cuts.

Since we in the U.S., are running a huge deficit, the largest this country ever had that will mean the people suffering in the disaster will get the short term needs meet. Long term help, they can kiss that help goodbye. The Federal government will eventually tell the states in a few months its your problem and reduce the funding because the Federal government has no money. Trust me they done it already with the No Child left Behind Program and will do it again.

If there was ever a reason to raise taxes or stop the tax cuts because were are going to have some major problems to fix, the Republicans will never do it. The have the big mouths but not the balls to do it. On the other hand the Republicans do like spending money when their supporters do not have to pay for it.

Yes I very worried about the additional tax burden, because the Republicans will not raise taxes. Then they have a excuse to dump this problems on the states claiming they have no money and they need the money for the war on terror.

At least Clinton understood if you raise taxes and cut spending, you can have surplus and use it. It eats at every Conservative Republican that a Democratic President had a balance budget and a growing economy while Republicans managed to have deficits and people out of work.

But with a smart person like George Bush in charge I could be completely wrong. But who is going to trust a man after during the third day of the disaster at a news conference said "If there are any problems we are going to fix them." If? What kind of fool says "if" when is staring you in the face that there are problems.
