I have completed going through the 11 pages of places to stay and have not read a comment on the following where we have reservations. Can any one give us any info on their experience at Hostal Cervantes in Madrid, Backpackers Posada Dona Lupe Alhambra in Granada, or the Parador Nacional Cristobal Colon in Mazagon ? Fortunately, we will be staying w/ my daughter's host family in Seville for Semana Santa.

Has no one really ever heard of Hostal Cervantes in Madrid or the hostel in Granada where we have reservations? That sounds scary!

Hi there!

There may very well be a few reviews of Hostal Cervantes here if you conduct a SEARCH using MADRID CERVANTES as your keywords in this category. Very-well located on Calle de Cervantes in my favorite, old neighborhood of Huertas too.

As for the Pensión Posada Doña Lupe , I don't think it's really a backpackers place but rather a hostel/pensión with private rooms and private or shared bathrooms. VERY-well located INSDIE the Alhabra site itself. How cool is that?!

You can find other Madrid hostel/hotel/apartment lodging alternatives on the Madrid Lodging page and other Granada hostel/hotel/apartment/youth-hostel lodging alternatives on the Granada Lodging page . smile

Good luck! And please do give us your valuable reviews upon returning. Thanks and enjoy your time in Spain!

Saludos, MadridMan

A quick review of the lodging in Madrid and in Granada. Hostal Cervantes was located perfectly in the Huertas area and had free use of a computer. However, the water pressure was poor for the shower, and all sounds carried down the hallway to all rooms. It was a place where we had to be quiet at night, and that's not us. In Granada, the hostel, Backpackers Posada Hostel Dona Lupe, was located within a block of Alhambra, which was great. There was also nothing open in that immediate area at night. We arrived hungry and later than expected, and they had given away our reserved rooms. We were given a room w/ a leaky toilet, to share when we were suppose to have two rooms for the four of us. The deposit only was charged for that night. The 2nd night wasn't much better. The shower curtain was not long enough in either of our rooms, so the rooms flooded after showering. The hostel is run very poorly, and could thrive if it were given proper management. We loved going into Granada down the huge hill, and found that town to be a lot of fun.
