With new message board software I can better manage new user registrations and have, at least for the time being, removed the restriction to Gmail users.

IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ, REGARDING YOUR (?) Gmail account and our message board.

Dear members of our ALL SPAIN Message Board on MadridMan.com:

As of 1 October 2008 I will be banning/freezing all current (and future) accounts on the message board which have a Gmail email address registered on our message board. Please change your email address on our message board to anything else (other than earthlink.net), possibly to a free email account with http://www.Yahoo.com or http://www.Hotmail.com .

Why? In the past few months there has been a flood of spammers using Gmail email accounts registering themselves across the internet's message boards. And since I personally, physically approve each and every new registration the task of verifying new accounts has become very time-consuming. Currently I'm receiving at least 20 new registrations daily coming from known spammers - which is more than 90% of the total registrations.

How do I know they're spammers? I'm a member of http://www.stopforumspam.com/ which keeps track of known forum spammers. When a new registration is tendered I run their email address through this website. If they are listed as a known spammer I delete their account. If they pass, I then run their email address through Google. If I find nothing in Google, I run their I.P. address through another website which tells me the I.P. addresses history and origin.

Needless to say, the above is a lot of work. For this reason on October 1st I'm freezing all current accounts using Gmail email addresses and banning all future registrations using the same.

What can you do? Please log-in to the message board, go to your "my profile", and change your email address to some other email account at which you have registered, free or otherwise, as in http://www.Yahoo.com or http://www.Hotmail.com.

Thanks billy the man! This thread is for new members as well as old members whom have a Gmail email address in their MadridMan account and will have it frozen. I imagine on October 1st people will be sending me emails asking why they can't access the message board and I can then send them the link to this thread.

it will not affect me but how will new members know not to use the GMail account? will they be told by you when they come to join?

Either all members on here are not GMail account or they will get a shock on October 1st

Hi billy the man, I'm going to add this item in bold letters in the registration agreement page. I JUST HOPE THEY SEE/READ IT!! If not, and they put in a Gmail account in the email field, their registration application will not be approved.

I sent emails to all members whom have Gmail accounts whom have visited the message board at least once in the past two years. SO I HOPE THEY FIND/READ that email!
