Hi all,
Some friends and I are hoping to catch the Ohio State v Michigan game coming up (on the 18th). Does anyone have suggestions on which bars might show the game, or places you'd suggest?

Many thanks.

Hehehe... You won't find ANY bars showing that game or (likely) any other college football game in the entire country of Spain. (Saturday game at 9:30pm Spain time)

If you DO get a lead, however, please do let me know as I'd LOVE to watch it - the PRE-NATIONAL-CHAMPIONSHIP-GAME. GO BUCKS!!

Course you would never imagine where I am from smile

Is it possible to get NFL games in Spain?

I thought one of the Irish bars might play it, since they do show NFL games, and have shown the BCS championship before... I'll let you guys know if I find anything out.

Also, I watch some games on sopcast.org - it has a live feed.

From time to time some of the Irish Pubs do show some of the bigger NFL football games (like the Super Bowl) and probably even a National Championship game for college but I seriously doubt they've ever shown a regular season college game. If you're passing by one someday this week why not stop in and ask if they even can (or know how to) tune in. Yes, please do let us know if you find out anything.

Sopcast.org, eh? NOW YOU TELL ME! You mean I've been missing all my OSU games all season and could've been watching them live online? Hmm.. Well, I just conducted a SEARCH of the sopcast.org website using keywords COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY, & NCAA and the results were 0, nothing, nada so maybe they ONLY broadcast NFL football games online.

Uff! rolleyes I was just searching the internet for warnings about the program and found the following one HERE in Spanish. The users complain that the file to install the sopcast program comes with spyware AND a trojan virus. Here are some comments...:

Quote:
TENGAN CUIDADO. ESE PROGRAMA TIENE SPYWARE Y UN TROJAN
Quote:

So, en fin, I think I'd rather NOT watch the game using sopcast than risk an infection. :yuck:

Saludos, MadridMan - Oh, and GO BUCKS!

Hm, thanks for the warning...so far, I haven't run into any security problems... They usually only list the channels around 15 minutes or so before the games start; I haven't looked for college football games, but they usually broadcast almost all the NFL games on there.

I'm probably headed to at least Finbar's this week, so will check with them about the Ohio-Michigan game. There are several bars I know of that broadcast at least two NFL games each Sunday through Sky Sports (a British channel)...

PLEASE DO keep me posted about this if you find a place certain to show the game. I'll be there! SERIOUSLY. I've already blown-off a birthday party just so I could stay home and listen to the game online/on-radio. Can't wait. It's big.

Check out Moore's (used to be O'Donnell's a few years ago) right outside the Tribunal metro in C/ Barcelo.

They have several TVs, and are normally very willing to turn on any sports you like, especially on the TV upstairs, where it's less crowded.

Any updates from anyone? I'll try to listen to the game online at the very least - if all the listening "ports" aren't occupied. If at all fails I could watch the graphical (flash media) play-by-play on ESPN's GameCast.

Seems now I will neither be able to listen to the game NOR watch it (as if it was televised SOMEWHERE rolleyes in Spain) because now I'm obligated to attend a birthday party. What timing. Argh. mad

Now to add some tragic drama, former Michigan coach Bo Schembeckler has just passed away.

MM, read your e-mail about some options for you to see the game delayed.

WHAT?!?!?!?! Bo died? Ohmygosh... that's terrible! And certainly DOES add some tragic drama to today's game. Maybe all the attention he's been getting, all the interviews he's been doing has been too much for him.

Regarding Finbar's (not sure where that is), I don't think I can escape the birthday party tonight on the HOPE that they will be able to play the game - although it'd be a good excuse. wink

UPDATE: Finbar's, http://www.finbarsmadrid.com/ , http://finbarsmadrid.com/Finbars-news/Getting-Here.html , it's NEXT TO the Arguelles Metro station. But looking now at their website's photos, the "space" doesn't look very big to get my 2 eyes on their single small-screen TV - particularly if that "space" is full of people at 9:30pm kickoff tonight/Saturday night.

GO BUCKS! Saludos, MadridMan xfingers

"Watch" the game LIVE via this live webcam of OSU Stadium - if you have a microscope. wink 3:30pm local (webcam) time. GO BUCKS! laugh xfingers

I MIGHT be able to catch the second half of the game at the Finbar's Irish Bar on their tiny-screen TV. I've got a contact there whom I'll call later today to see if, IN FACT, they are showing the game at said Irish bar.

OSU 42, UM 39. WOW! eek What a game! Thanks to member jlnastal I watched most of the second half at the aforementioned Finbar's nearly-standard-size TV in the back of the bar. When I walked in, halfway through the 3rd quarter, I expected the TV to be swamped and was surprised - and pleased - to see the back TV area almost empty! I sat right down at a large table below the TV which was occupied by only one man, a United Statesen, so we shared the experience together, talking about OSU - Michigan games as well as other other Top-10 teams. I even met jlnastal on the other side of the room. Nice meeting you! And thanks! I had no problem finding the bar.

Now the National Championship game is next on January 8th, 2007. xfingers

Now it's late but I'd totally forgotten about TRYING to find someplace here in Madrid to watch "The BIG Game". ARGH! Kickoff is in one hour!!!

I doubt jlnastal is even living in Madrid now but what do I know. Too late to contact her by now to find out if SHE knows about a bar which is televising the game.

Anyway, GO BUCKS!! BEAT MICHIGAN!!

Doh! Not again!

I can tell by the MadridManCam that Ohio must have one again. Seems to me that Ohio wins a disproportionate share of these games.

Only lately has OSU won a disproportionate number of these games, gazpacho. In the John Cooper years the numbers were reversed. Now we're in the Tressel Years and things are QUITE different. laugh

I've enjoyed watching various Big 10 games this year after so long overseas. Too bad OSU won't move up enough in the BCS to play for the national title, but those pesky Illini took care of that. My Hoosiers finally have a winning season and won the Old Oaken Bucket from Purdue.

Ohio State vs. LSU for the National Title in New Orleans on January 7.

What a crazy year for college football.

They really need a playoff system.

WOO HOO!! :jump:

As you said, what a crazy BCN year with the Number 1 AND Number 2 teams losing nearly every weekend. I wonder what the longest period of time ANY #1 team held on to that position - maybe 2 weeks?? OSU was Number 1, then lost to Illinois and went to Number 7. Beat Michigan and went to Number 5 to end their season. The following weekend, without playing, went to Number 3. Then the last weekend, again without playing, went to Number 1. Just incredible.

I gotta tell you I'm a bit nervous about facing LSU on January 7th but they've proven - as has OSU - that they're mortals and CAN lose. I'll bet the odds-makers will give LSU the favorite to win.

Last Saturday night I caught the last half of the Oklahoma U. versus Missiouri game online and was nearly out of my chair with excitement with each OU score. I'd gotten up at 2:30am and watched until 6am, even watching part of the last quarter of the West Virginia versus PITT game. Wow. What an incredible last weekend in NCAA (University) (American) Football. rolleyes

Sunday, December 2, 2007 8:30 PM Columbus Dispatch article:

Get ready for OSU vs. LSU
Two-loss Tigers to play Buckeyes for national title

My own personal titles for this National Championship game would be:

AN ALL OHIO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
"Ohio Native Jim Tressel (born in Mentor, Ohio on December 5, 1952) faces OTHER Ohio Native Les Miles (born in Elyria, Ohio on November 10, 1952) on January 7th"

or...

National Championship Game: Ohio State University versus University of Michigan: AGAIN?!
"OSU coach Jim Tressel faces LSU coach - University of Michigan alum & former UM Assistant Coach - Les Miles for the National Championship"

or even (and this one is a stretch)...:

OSU versus (former) OSU for the National Championship
"OHIO State University's coach Jim Tressel faces former OKLAHOMA State University's coach Les Miles"

You went to Hawaii?? Wow! What a FANTASTIC season they had this year!!!! Congratulations!

Very good. You'll be in Madrid.

That said, I think it'll be very very difficult:

Sugar Bowl:
in New Orleans
Hawaii vs. Georgia
Jan. 1, 8:30 p.m. (ET) FOX

That's 2:30am local Spain time for the start of TV coverage. Kickoff is likely to be 2:45am or thereabouts. Game won't be over until 5:45am or 6am. You won't find a bar open all night to watch it.

Will you be "living" here in Madrid or just visiting on that date?

IF you will have your own computer with internet access at home (or wherever that may be) you MAY be able to WATCH the game online - or at the very least follow it on the radio (online) and ESPN's Gamecast as I've been doing all season for my Ohio State Buckeyes. (we're Number 1 !! - for now xfingers )

Saludos, MadridMan

Thanks! We'll see how they stack up against a quality team. The WAC is not exactly good practice for a postseason BCS bowl game.

I will be visiting Madrid. The hotel does have free wireless internet. So hopefully I'll be able to find SOMETHING. Otherwise I'll have to maybe instant message with someone from back home, hahaha.

Best wishes to OSU!

Remember, when the hotels say they have free wireless internet that means that it's to be used with YOUR OWN laptop computer - so you'll have to take it along.
