Or at the very least be married to one. :p In fact, I met and talked to (now we're e-pals eek wink ) an attractive, Cleveland-based FEMALE flight attendant on my way to Madrid for New Years. Maybe if I play my cards right... Hmmm... hehehe... JUST KIDDING!

But seriously folks (bah-dum-dum).. I wish I could attend the next gathering. It'd be great and is WAY overdue. Have fun!

I propose that we do sth more this time. My idea of a perfect Sunday is leaving Madrid at 4:00 pm to do some kayaking either at the royal palace of Aranjuez gardens or at the Lozoya lake (if you haven´t kayaked ever before don´t worry is the easiest thing in the world easier than walking, trust me). Coming back at 7:30 pm. Rest, dress up and go out for tapas and nightclubs afterwards!

You being from the UK, I assume you are referring to a "Knees up Mother Brown," something I learned many years ago when I was a Sergeant in the USAF stationed in East Anglia.
Quote:
All those in favour, raise your hands and hop on one leg!
That's not a 'Knees up;' it's a 'Hokey Pokey.'

I am in favor; but can I just raise my hand (the one that's not holding my walking stick)? Otherwise I might fall down; and that could be embarrassing. I celebrate my Birthday on 18 Jul two days after your gathering.

Just in case I happen to be in Madrid on 16 Jul, where should I look for you?? El Brilliante??

Eddie, I am not sure where to start off. I am thinking somewhere more obvious, like Calle Mayor, which allows easy drunken access to Santa Ana.

Hmmm.....any ideas, anyone?

If all fails, we can go with Moores or Fontana de Oro??

Hola Eddie,

I wish I could see this. Perhaps when I retire in a few years I will be able to go en mi cumpleaños.

About how would you say pescador in Andaluz:
the andalucian singer Chaquetón, has a song called "El pescaor" so maybe they take the "d" out.

You can listen to the song here.

I am thinking that perhaps, instead of meeting at a bar, where people can be missed due to crowding, we should meet at a landmark and go from there? Somewhere like the horse at Plaza Mayor would stand out.

If anyone is wanting to come to this event, please send me a private message so I can give you my mobile number for use to find us on the night.

For a safe bet, I am going to say:

"Let's meet at the horse on Plaza Mayor at 8pm"

If anyone else can think of anything better, please let me know - I am useless anyway! laugh

I would meet at Plaza de la Villa. You never know with Plaza Mayor. If there is a concert, or a fair or a football match (there is one right now!) we won´t be able to meet. My experience with meeting at
Plaza Mayor is gruesome.

One more thing. Christine if you have a list of the people attending I could upload it to my site.

just wanted to say I came to the Plaza Mayor on the 16th about 8:05 and couldnt seem to find the group. There was a big wine/tapas event surrounding the statue and a lot of people, but I waited until about 8:30. Sorry I missed you!

Hey!

Sorry, I have been slacking. I should have been around to keep my thread alive....but.....I wasn't!

Yes, 16th July is a go go! I am thinking meeting at 8 and either booking a table somewhere, so people can just turn up at the bar and ask for the table, or meeting by a prominent statue / eyesore.

Any suggestions from those currently in Madrid?

Sorry it took so long to reply, I´m staying where there isn´t a computer.
I was thinking of the Plaza San Andres at the Cervercería San Andres. This is located at the end of Cava Baja, and there are lots of places to go after if we want to ´"tapear".
There is a large terraza and if we gather about 8pm i´m sure we can get a table or wait only a few minutes for a table.
I´ve been there a few times and enjoy it, also, I believe MM has had an official gathering there once too.

What do you think?

OK, we are sorted! Cerveceria San Andres 8pm. What is the nearest metro?

If anyone wants my contact details, to avoid people getting lost, send me a PM and we can exchange.

10 days to go! woohoo!

I'm pretty darn sure LATINA is the closest metro stop - and it's QUITE CLOSE too.

I really liked the Cervecería San Andrés, in the shadow of San Andrés Church. The terraza is quite large, probably having 30 tables or maybe more. The restrooms are inside and downstairs. The food and drinks seemed pretty cheap too as this place is off the tourist map.

Terraza of Cervecería San Andrés below:

Also, check out the April 16, 2004 Party With MadridMan in Madrid thread HERE where you'll see links to some photos of the place.

Enjoy! Wish I could attend. Saludos, MadridMan

Hi,

Thank you for your kind words. I am just grateful that I managed to kick myself out of bed early for a change, so I could stay on the bus all the way to Tottenham COurt Road, rather then get on the piccadilly line, which wouold have placed me at Russell Square at the same time as the explosion.

I am still reading yesterdays papers today, looking in disbelief and horror at the carnage. I can only imagine what these people went through and I think they are all so brave and deserve our respect.

I fully intend to go to Madrid next saturday, if anything can help me feel a little better, then it is the city of Madrid.

That's a shame, laduque. It's been my experience that only about 50% of those "confirmed" will attend. Unfortunately you did better than that with 100%. hehehe... Too bad. Now is when you'll the reasons as to why those "confirmed" couldn't make it - which I'm sure are all true. hehehe... wink Oh well. People are people.

Still, glad to hear you and your mother enjoyed yourselves.

sure is quiet here. I think I hear crickets singing. heheehe... Well, laduque, hope you and your mother had a nice time even though no one else showed up. smile

Isn't that terraza nice? I really liked it, kind of out of the way but still central, fewer (if any) tourists, good prices, etcetera.

Saludos, MadridMan

Hello everyone!

We had a nightmare getting to Madrid. We boarded the plane on time, but were left sitting on the tarmac for over an hour while we had a technical fault. We didn't get to La Latina until about 9.30, so would have missed the two attendees. *argh*

Despite the prelimenary hitch, we ended up hooking up with a bunch of German guys and we partied until 5am!

Just got home last night and I am very tanned. I didn't want to come home! Esepcially since it is raining here in London and only 22 degrees. I have been used to 42 over the past week!

Came home to the news that I might be moving to Florida, but we shall see!

To the others that said they were going to come and didn't - what happened to you guys?

Christine

I fully intended to come but was sruck by a "travel bug" I suppose. Fever, bed, I'll spare you the details, but I'm so sorry to have missed it! I checked that same cerveceria a couple of days later and it is in such a nice little corner. Sorry, Laduque you were left floundering! I'm in Madrid until 8/1 if you have the impetus to give it a go again.

No worries, my mom almost didn´t accompany me and i would have been alone. we had a great time anyway.
well, today is my last day in madrid till next summer and i´m feeling down. having dinner with the family, last minute shopping, and packing is on the agenda this evening.
Would have loved to have met some new faces here, maybe next time.

See you one the other side of the pond! frown
