I´ve been here in Madrid for almost a week now. I´m a video student from the States, currently not studying, and instead working at an art gallery in the Lavapies neighborhood. I´m looking for a studio or one bedroom to share with a friend of mine, pay around 500 euro/month, or just a room for myself, up to 300 euro. The more central the better, but anything close to a metro line...
Because I have nothing here anything furnished would be a bonus, though not a nessesity.

In late November and early December I stayed for three weeks with a retired Spanish lady who lives in a very nice area on Arturo Soria very close to the #4 Metro line. She owns a five-bedroom condominium, and since she lives alone rents out three of the bedrooms to visiting students. This was all arranged for me by the school where I was attending Spanish language classes. If this is of interest to you, send me a private e-mail and I will provide you with her telephone number. (The lady does not speak any English.)

Hey Cora! How's your situation now?? Found a place to stay? I'll come to Madrid this fall and will be facing the same problem as you. Is it expensive to live around madrid. I'll be studying, so I need something cheap. Have any hints?? What do ya pay for your accomodation now??

I'm moving to Madrid on Tuesday, and my friends who are there said that they found their apartments/pisos relatively easy. Before you go, do a little research.Try http://madrid.loquo.com for a pretty decent listing of available apartments and to get an idea of costs. Also, try going up to the areas around the UPC and Universidad Compultense. There are lots of advertisements and flyers for apartments and pisos and shared flats for students (ie. cheap!!)

Once I get to Madrid and (hopefully) find an apartment, I'll stop back here and let you know how it went.
