EXPERIENCE
Broad experience of tax planning for both growing owner-managed and family-owned companies and the individuals (often controlling directors) behind them.
Considerable international tax planning experience, including the European markets, USA, Canada and Far East;
Detailed knowledge of the following:
1. Double Tax Treaties
2. Residence & domicile rules
3. The taxation of permanent establishments
4. European Holding Companies and the Parent/Subsidiary Directive
5. UK Anti-avoidance legislation (the 700’s) in detail, with a working knowledge of other countries’ anti-avoidance provisions, including Controlled Foreign Companies legislation.
6. Cross border financing and leasing techniques.
7. Transfer pricing
8. The uses of offshore finance centres in international structuring.
9. Structuring cross-border transactions in immovable property
10. The practical use of trusts for High Net Worth Individuals, including those resident in civil law jurisdictions
Also beneficial a detailed understanding of UK pensions;
Dealing with the UK Inland Revenue at a high level;
Using and referring to a network of existing international

ROLE
To act as a “Centre of Excellence” for international tax within our own tax division.
To work under their own initiative for existing and new clients in international tax planning and structuring, both corporate and personal, undertaking the necessary research, liaising with other offices (particularly Spain and UK), and working with the Trust and Company Management Divisions to ensure correct implementation.
To work with the other members of the tax division.
Co-ordination of structures.
To carry out “four eyes” reviews of all tax planning/advisory reports, discussion documents, etc that are issued by the tax division.
To develop “tax planning ideas” and discuss internally.
To assist with internal training, both within the tax division (technical) and the Group (awareness), and also to guide tax staff to relevant external training.
To publish tax articles and present lectures to increase awareness of Gibraltar’s tax abilities.
To ensure tax division billing and WiP targets are achieved/exceeded (own in the region of 75% chargeable, remainder product/practice development and administration, equating to approximately £250,000+ chargeable p.a.).

The ideal individual would come from one of the Big 4 or have left and set up own Company.

Experience in both individual and corporate areas
Spanish and/or French would be an advantage
