pesetas?just to correct you there called euros now
sadly the money currency in spain has lost its identity but what the heck at least were better off with euros.right?oh and melinda i feel the same way you do though i have forcedfully learned more patience for visiting spain because of the fact that it costs a fortune to visit spain or any part of the old world for that matter from here in new york.
bye now you notice that im a new yorker(only by residence)i was born in cuba came to butternut wisconsin in 1981 eek then in 1990 came to new york to queens to be more specific.my father is from ortigueira, galicia, spain and my mom is cuban and my grandmother is from the maragateria region of leon in astorga i also have asturian and FRENCH blood in me too.STILL i cant come to this party because of strict parental control in my home(only to the point that i cant go to another borough by myself)though one time i rebelled and went to brooklyn by myself and returned at night. eek eek laugh
adios from new york city wink laugh

See I hoard all my money and never go out so I can go to Spain. And I've made a lot of Spanish friends in the past year or so that are always offering me a place to stay so basically it ends up that I only have to pay for the plane ticket and whatever I want to do there, which isn't much if you go in this off-season. But I paid a fortune to go on the 19th, due to Christmas smirk

I'll be in Madrid and surrounding areas for a few days. I really want to get out to Segovia and Toledo, but it really depends on the friend I'm staying with because I feel kind of bad ditching her for half my time there when I'm staying in her apartment. Then I'm going north to Galicia to visit my best friend who lives in Nigran. If you go to the Galicia webcams, open the Baiona Bay one - her town is that beach on the right - Praia America. We'll spend Christmas in Ourense and visit with friends in Vigo and Santiago as well. We were going to take a trip up to A Coruna and el Ferrol, but I think we'll wait until next time due to la marea negra. Then it's back to Madrid for two more days. My friend from Sevilla is coming up to visit me so that should be fun... And on Nochevieja I travel back to New York to be with my godmother at midnight.

As for cities I've already visited in the north:
Galicia: more towns in southern Galicia than I could possibly name... Just take out a map and circle everything on the coast LOL.
Cantabria: Santander, San Vicente de la Barquera
Catalunya: Barcelona, Lloret de Mar

One day I'll learn how to drive and do a roadtrip across the north of Spain... I'll just have to find someone to drag with me!

O, and no pulpo a la gallega this Christmas... Or any seafood... too expensive now frown

la marea negra? Is that the petroleum leak, or is it something else? I gotta start reading spanish news... any good sites you guys recommend?

A Coruna is awesome- definitely go there when you get a chance. I think that was the highlight of our Northern Spain drive... maybe if we end up in Spain at the same time one day, we can do that drive. What do you mean, learn to drive? You mean stick shift or just drive in general? We taught our friend how to drive a stick in 10 minutes, and he drove for the next 150 miles, so it's pretty easy to learn.

If you go to Segovia, make sure you get the cochinillo... the roman aquaducts there are amazing too...

Richie Rich, Madrid seems tough right now... I have to move apartments at month-end and my sister is in town as well around New Years. I'm going up to Boston tomorrow for a couple days on business, but I'll keep you updated. Awesome mojitos last night, tried to ring you up- you got a cell phone?
