The cheapskates at El País have gone to a subscription fee for their online version of the news! ¡Infieles! ¡bastardos! ¡cabrones!

Now if I want completely unbiased journalism and coverage of Spain's hottest issues I'll have to shell out some euros!

Rumor has it that 35% of the subscription fee goes right into Aznar's personal bank account under the sub-account "fondos campaña".

I was disappointed that they did that!! Now I guess it'll be El Mundo and ABC for news in Spain!!

For those Spanish speakers/readers whom may not have already seen it, read the long thread entitled " Las ediciones digitales de los diarios españoles dejarán de ser de libre acceso " in the "Discusión de España" forum.

I too am PEEVED that El País is now charging for access. I can only guess that a very very small percentage of those original readers will pay to read as Spanish news can found other places. I'd have to guess that NEW, FREE NEWS SOURCES will pop up online soon.

It´s not bad. I usually buy the IHT and it comes with El Pais in English. I think that it is just a few choice stories translated into English from the Spanish edition. There´s not much to it.
