Desmo, have you solved your problems with the outgoing mail?. If you are using Terra's ADSL connection, then you'll find the information on how to configure it here .

As for the problem with the ports opened maybe it is that you not only opened the port 6901 but a range between that port and above or something like that and that's why you saw many of them opened. You should be able just to open that one.

As for the username and password, it is well-known because all Telefonica's ADSL routers have that password and few people usually bother to mess around with the router configuration. In fact, I think Telefonica say they block the router so that you can't misconfigure it and you shouldn't touch or you'll loose the warranty.

Hi Antonio

Too late - changed password on router, also delved a bit, guess I'll work out the ports business sometime. Main thing is I experimented with the emails and all is hunky dory . What a game this has been.

OK another question and my gateway will probabaly kick in - do you know the news server for telefonica, again I can find no reference.tried nntp.telefonica.net and news.telefonica.net to no avail, if it is one of those I probabaly have a port problem again.

Madrid Man just to let you know this forum is pretty well moderated AND helpful
I used www.xpats.com in Belgium and the forum was a free for all, any one putting a question was ridiculed by other posters.

Hi Desmo,

No, you are not having problems with the port (unless you have accidentally closed it). Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP), the protocol used by the news service, is available at the port #119.

The problem is that you are trying to guess the address of the server by the word using "telefonica". Telefonica only provides your connection but they don't provide any services. For those matters Telefonica has Terra, its ISP. Try with news.terra.es. Then you have to subscribe to the groups where you want to read / post and provide your login / password (I think it's the same you use for your POP3 account).

Be aware that newsgroups are usually unmoderated and most of the times they have lots of rubbish and commercial ads.

Regards,

Antonio

PS: Read more about the configuration of the news service

Antonio you are not kidding when you say telefonica don't provide a service. I am despeartely short of hair and low on tobacco thanks to them. We paid a small fortune for this stuff and I cant do anything except surf oh and listen to BBC news and www.planetradio.co.uk and just getting msn radio. In belgium the sites were tri-lingual, the helpdesk was a helpdesk and they were tri-lingual. There is no way I can say anymore than "buenos dias" or "ola" so god help me with this. Incidentally anyone reading this check out www.terra.es seems that they have CHEAP adsl package, ok I lied I can follow some written espanol but just cant talk it or understand it spoken :o . Fortunately I'll be back in Belgium in a year or two , just have to accept its cold and wet and the drivers are loons. At least I can get my internet working and at 1mb.

Any way thanks all - think its time to change the subject cos I am a bit miffed.

Anyone know of a cheap ducati 400ss or a Pantah. You got some ace roads here.Time to get aquainted with them. web page :p
