I noticed that there's a post mentioning a Málaga web cam, and I've posted in the Camino Francés thread the TV-Galicia website at www.crtvg.es. Where's your favorite "keep an eye on Spain" site? I love the Gallego site, and there are links there to about 22 web cams, but I've only seen a few. Let's help each other keep an eye on the country we love, since we can't always keep the rest of our bodies there!

Great idea for a new topic in this forum, Calibasco! I always view the HUGE list of Spain webcams @ http://webcam.virtualoffice.es/ . I really like the one's of Sigüenza including that of the parador. Another I like a lot is the streaming website using the free RealPlayer of the 20-or-so traffic/highway cams surrounding Madrid @ http://www.terra.es/trafico . Pretty boring, but sometimes you get a glimpse of the Sierra de Guadarrama mountains.

Well just wait!!! A new, VERY exciting INSIDE-Madrid webcam will be unveiled in January (or February). And hey! I LIKE watching cars driving around the M30 and M40. I imagine myself standing on the overpass IN MADRID! Mmmm... Love thinking about it.

Looked all over for a webcam of Puerta del Sol on New Year's Eve, but no luck.

Anyone know where to find one ( only 357 days 'till 2002!)?

www.viapolis.com has live cams (although not as entertaining as the one in our host's house) of many cities in Spain and callejeros as well.

Hmmm.. While ALL of you know how I feel about Self-Promotions and Advertisements (i.e. that they're not allowed on MadridMan's Spain Message Board), I'll let this one slide because I've been secretly enjoying Jeremy's Live (Madrid) Plaza Mayor Cam (and more!) for many MANY months now while it was being built. It really is GREAT!! I most often check in during the weekends or even LATE at night to see the sun rise over the far wall of the plaza.

As I said in the previous post in another thread, the LIVE cam hours are 6pm-8am weekdays local time as well as ALL weekend. Check it out! Enjoy!! laugh cool

Saludos, MadridMan

Madridman,
Thank goodness you posted the info about Jeremy's Live Plaza Mayor Cam. I got an email about it, and was just about to run and ask if you were aware of it, but now I see it's all good.

I guess I'm just a little protective of your great madridman site.

WOW!!!!!!!! If you can, GO TO multimadrid NOW!!! Seems today must be a holiday in Madrid/Spain (because the camera is usually offline after 8am local time on weekdays)!

There's some kind of ceremony, prosession, or something going on in the Plaza Mayor at this very moment! I see (Royal?!) horses?!! CLICK HERE for the image I just captured. How insteresting, but click the multimadrid link above to see for yourself the current images.

Saludos, MadridMan

P.S. Seems the above was a single image capture and is no longer live (at this moment). Maybe he'll connect from time to time to give updates of today's ceremony, whatever it may be. Hope so!

Wow, Jeremy's website is going to get addictive (as if this addiction wasn't enough :p). I, too, am keeping an eye on what's going on in the Plaza. (When will I get any work done?) What's happening? It looks so impressive!! It looks like he's set it on this morning's picture, so you can see it now still. The rest of the website is great, too - lots of pictures!! Having both Madridman and Multimadrid to visit is making me feel extremely spoiled. What talented, dedicated people are out there, doing such wonderful things!

Hi all, Wow!!! What an outpouring of support. MadridMan, sorry about that self plug, I forgot you were not into that, glad you are flexible though.
MM: to answer your post about the Royal Horses and Carriages, I was abotu to leave to do some errands and I heard the faint pitter patter of hoofs on the Plaza Mayor. Since my mother in-law was not visitng at the moment (oooohhh!!! good thing she does not even know what Internet is!!!, I ran to the window and started to record the amazing site which I will be putting up on multimadrid a in the special events section as "Ambassadors in Madrid" sometime in May. I got some amazing shots and videos. Well, I was confused as to what was going on (since it was not a holiday) and after streaming a Real Video I connected to the Internet and put the cam on for 10 minutes (when special things happen and I am at home I connect out of the normal operating schedule) so that anyone who visited my web would see that image instead of the sunrise that can be seen every morning when the camera takes it's last shot until 6pm when it goes back online. To the point, what was happening was that 4 or 5 nes ambassadors to Spain were being officially commissioned. Whenever there are 3 or 4 new ambassadors to Spain (they don't do every time a new one is appointed due to the extremely expensive ceremony), they are commisioned and driven in Royal horse drawn (and escorted) carriages from the Ministry fo Foreign Affairs to the ROyal Palace where they are greeted by the King (Juan Carlos I) and then they go back to their embassies in their diplomatis cars. Usually they only pass through the Plaza Mayor on their way but since the streets in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is a mess due to construction (putting in another underground parking, yuckooo!!!), they could not use the Ministry building as a departing point so they decided to use the Plaza (thank God for "Obras"). So, we got a real treat. I recorded all of it!!! It was a very long ceremony because they had to bring about 5 ambassadors and their spouses from the Plaza to the Royal Palace in only 2 carriages and they made a seperate trip for each one.
Hi Eric: Thanks for thanking MM for allowing me to put the post up. Of course he has known about it for months, he is up on these things!
Hola Connie: Thanks for the complement. Truth is I still feel as if I am living a dream living here in the Plaza and will wake up at any moment, sleeping pills anyone?
Hey Diana: Go ahead, spoil yourself to death!!! I am very happy (as I am sure is MadridMan) to bring you all that this AMAZING city has to offer. People like you are my inspiration to work tirelessly and keep on improving the web.
Hope this string was not too long. Bye, Jer... :p
p.s. MadridMan, congrats, this new message board version rocks!!!

HEY!! When it rains, it pours!! Seems Jeremy and www.multimadrid.com has a little competition! (only a little)

Hotel Tryp Fenix has installed their own live STREAMING cam overlooking Plaza de Colón on the Viapolis Webcams website.

It's not a true LIVE cam, but seems to only be 15-30 second loop that gets played over and over like some of the others. You can, however, choose the previous hour of the day to see each hour's 15-second video though. Curses! Oh well. Hopefully Telefónica will get it's A** into gear and install them on every corner of central Madrid someday. (DOUBT IT!)

Saludos, MadridMan

P.S. From there (above), you can choose other short, hourly streaming cam clips of cities like Barcelona (Placa Catalunya), Granada, Valencia, and many others.

Je, je, je!!! Thanks MadridMan, actually, I am a big fan of the Viapolis website. As you said, they are loops that record about 15 min per hour and then play over and over but are cool nonetheless. Anyway, that new ColonCam (ouch!!! sounds like one of those unsavory medical procedures) only makes me drive even harder to improve my web, "Viva la Competencia".
Jer... eek

OK, so now I can visit Plaza Mayor without leaving my desk thanks to Jeremy's awesome site, and I can visit other cool cities in Spain thanks to Viapolis. This is my idea of Reality TV! Jeremy, THANKS for putting up such a great, informative and entertaining site. And, of course, thanks to MM for giving me (and us) a place to find everything Spain ( at least on line).

Hey MadridMan and all Madrid and Spain lovers out there. Indeed the bouncing baby DSL connection arrived and the PlazaCam is online 24/7. MM, you forgot to mention that it is now on a 20 second image refresh rather than the old 60 second refresh. Next step, streaming the Plazacam laugh , now that will be a feat!
Also one little correction, the National Stamp Fair ended on June 3rd and now the Plaza is back to it's full uncluttered glory.
Hasta luegito,
jer...

Someone just sent me an email regarding a new (yet somewhat boring) live cam (seemingly 24/7, every minute) in Madrid! It's @ www.GlorietaDeBilbao.com and the cam is looking down into the metro entrance/exit and not at the glorieta at all. <yawn!> Still, it seems there is a terraza setup around the stairs where, I suppose, one could people watch.

Hey MadridMan, what a coinkidink, I discovered that Webcam last week and the truth is, it is pretty cheesy. I don't know why they don't point it at the cool fountain in the roundabout instead (views of the fountain, nice buildings, people and cars as well). I am pretty sure that the cam is hooked up to one of the PCs in the makeshift (coin operated and expensive) cybercafe on the second floor of the well known Café Comercial and I will probably go to investigat one day soon in person to see the setup.

One thing that did tick me off however is their claim of being the "First Webcam in the Center of Madrid". Ha, the PlazaCam is still laughing that one off! laugh
Saludos,

jer...

GREAT! Another TRUE live webcam in Madrid, JAVA refreshing every 20 seconds.
THIS ONE is at the intersection of Calle de Alcalá and Calle de Arturo Soria (this is one major intersection EAST of Plaza de Toros & M-30, at the Metro stop Ciudad Lineal).

There's another true live cam at Getafe which seems to be looking out someone's window into their neighborhood's parking lot. rolleyes Not very impressive, but another webcam nonetheless.

By the way, that Glorieta de Bilbao webcam hasn't refreshed since last summer! rolleyes

Saludos, MadridMan

Aaaahhh.... I JUST watched the sunset around Toledo on its live cam . It was a mostly cloudy sky which made the light especially beautiful.. now, the city glows with street lights and the illuminated cathedral and alcazar. Mmmm... Nice. smile

Hey! There's a NEW live Webcam in town! In Madrid, that is. You can view the skyline LIVE @ http://www.avendano.org/webcam.html . This is a view of the skyline of the north of Madrid. If you look carefully, you can see the Torres Kio (a.k.a. Puerta de Europa) on the far right.

There's really not much to it since the buildings don't get up and walk around, but you can at least admire the "Velazquez Skies" over Madrid. Enjoy!

Hi all, new to the board thing.

As a big web cam tourism fan, I am always amazed by the amount of boring webcams in the cities of the world. Watching traffic go by is not too much fun and buildings do not move, except during earthquakes frown

I saw a post on a Puerta del Sol webcam on another message baord of a site on Madrid called multimadrid which I found through this board.

The cam site is www.multimadrid.com

There is a webcam connected to the PC I am using right now at my school and it has the same exact view as that Sol web cam.

I am at cpi-vamos Spanish school ( www.cpi-vamos.com ) at Puerta del Sol # 4 on the 5th floor. It is a cool and affordable place to take classes as far as I can tell (I did some research before I chose a school to study at here) laugh

Can anyone confirm that this camera is the same one? After all, I can't imagine there being two.

Hasta la pasta - Darren.

Hi well deserved break! I'm guessing you haven't yet visited the multimadrid website -- the cam there is of the Plaza Mayor and not the Puerta del Sol. You say there's one pointing out to the Puerta del Sol from your school??!! Can you please give us the exact URL to that cam page? Thanks!

Tentatively, MadridMan (who tries NOT to have suspicious bones in his body)

Actually there is a Sol cam now - thanks to Fernando and others - sort of gray today from the looks of it.
Seems that MultiMadrid now has 3 web cams - 2 in Mayor and the third in Sol. He's trying to make us all homeisck!

p.d. That old and pathetic seemingly once every 6 months image refresh Glorieta de Bilbao Webcam now redirects straight to a totally different web portal at www.piensaenred.com frown

Can't help but think that it was all just a ploy to get that URL linked to on other sited and indexed in search engines and then sell out mad

Thanks everyone!

MadridMan, the webcam I was referring to was another one on the same site. I did see the 2 Camera views of the Plaza Major as well. The exact web address of the Puerta del Sol camera is at http://www.multimadrid.com/solcam.html

jer, I realized that it was the same webcam as in the school when I went back to thewebcam and saw Fernando's banner at page top advertising the school.

Mr. jer

Do you ever get a crick in your shoulder when you pat yourself on your own behind? It would seem a pity if you did. You would be in hospital at least once a day for their therapy programme. You should know the stone is in Blarney, not in your flat in Madrid. My mates and I will now put you on ignore.

jer deserves it!! he has put blood, sweat and tears into his website. unlike alot of us who simply adore spain and have done NOTHING to promote/advance Spain he has poured himself into doing this for his adopted country!! lets see if anyone else has the desire or the drive to do this!!

Guapetona,

Actually this is MadridMan's board, not Jer's. I guess that should answer your question as to who put blood, sweat, and tears into it. Did you forget about him?

After looking at limerick's # of posts, I'm beginning to wonder if this isn't a set up by someone trying to generate more business for Jer's board. One post? Come on now! Isn't that a little fishy?

[Added note:] I see that Well Deserved Break has only two posts, and those are promotion of the other site. What an interesting development!

As for there being a rivalry, I'm afraid I've seen a lot of posts on the other board that have taken back handed swipes at this one in the past. Because of it, I ignore the fact that MadridMan gets a little short with people promoting a rival like I see being done here.

It would probably be best if Jer stayed away from this board, and MadridMan stayed away from his. None of us like blantant self promotion, and that's what this whole thing looks like to me.

Wolf (Who loves this board, and the fact that MadridMan isn't a P.T. Barnum type - laugh )

wolf...of course this is MM's board. that is extremely obvious. the fact that both gentleman have worked hard at both their respective boards is a given. i would have responded in the same manner had limerick posted this about MM on jer's site. i believe this to be implicit in my previous post. as far as to who can promote what, where and to whom..that is an issue that should be left to MM and jer. after all, both boards are their creations and not ours.
have a wonderful day and VIVA MADRIDMAN!! laugh

Hey limrick, ignore me al you want.

Wolf (AKA JP SAVAGE) I know that this is MM's board and it is a great one at that. Your finger pointing is not very nice, especially when, as Guapetona pointed out, I do a lot to bring you Madrid as does MM.

Well deserved break is also a member of my board so if he and limrick are trying to pull people towards my site, it is their business. I feel I must defend myself here.

Also, I do not think the # of posts has nuch to do with anything, there is a glitch in the software that runs these board. If you look at the 2 posts by fmiketheman above you will see the number is stuck on 30.

Thanks Guapetona, it is nice to be apreciated smile I am happy to continue to bring Madrid into the homes of those that truly love this place.

I think it is absoultely assenine ot think that because someone mentions another Madrid website on this board it is an insider trying to get free publicity, please!

I also think that your comments above Wolf will probably scare well deserved break and limrick off, nice work!

I do agree that I should stay off of this board from now on however and this shall be my last post so bash all ya want JP.

Saludos,
jer...

p.d. MM, keep up the good work and see ya round.

You say it's their business but it's also ours. We are part of this board, and we don't have to accept it.

As far as your "exposure of JP," that's funny. Almost everyone here knows I'm JP on your boards. It wasn't a secret. I joined your board when I was in northern Wisconsin at our old three seasons home, and since people from that area were called jack pine savages, I decided to use it for the ISP I had up there and when I joined your board. If I was trying to hide it, I certainly wouldn't have used my same residence city, now would I. Hell! If anyone wants my name and home address, that's fine too. I'll be glad to give it to them, but you're violating one of the most sacred trusts of the internet. Privacy. Do you also sell the short list of names to spammers as well? Why not? There might be a buck in it for you. It appears you wouldn't be above doing something like that.

What I find irritating is the fact that something that is supposed to be private, like a person's identity on a board, means nothing to you. That you feel you have the right to violate that trust, because it "serves your purpose" at the moment, and will, in some way, make the person lose credibility. That's totally irresponsible on your part. Just as bad as your previous admission that it's okay for two of your board members to cook up a scheme to undermine this board, for your own gain. Yes, it is "your business." Maybe the limerick post wasn't that far from the truth.

So, what are you doing here besides trying to stir up business for your site? Just one look at your signature tells us your mission. Your posts do nothing more than confirm it.

I commend Guapetona for defending you. There's nothing wrong with that. But when a person reads your post, it's certainly hard to believe that you deserve support from any of us.

But then again, you hadn't shown your ass yet, when Guapetona posted, had you? laugh

Wolf

Holy Bug-Eyed Squid, Batman!
I leave the board for 36 hours, finally able to get myself online for the first time upon arriving in my/our beloved Madrid, and THIS is what I find? YIKES!!

Oh please - oh please - oh please, people. Let´s not have any in-fighting here. We´ve been oh-so fortunate since it all began, we´ve been mature and respectful, kind and patient with others, and... well.. what else can I say? I don´t think it´s wise to allow this thread to continue.. Sorry. Let´s play nice, please, and get back to talking about the Spain we all know (or hope to know) and love dearly. Thank you.

Sincerely, MadridMan
