I am working on developing some fun scavenger hunts for the people I’ll be traveling with through Spain in a few weeks. Ages range from 11 to 50-something, so I’d like questions that anyone can handle (few speak Spanish well). The idea is to give those who need it some focus when they’re out exploring on their own. (Some people are better at wandering aimlessly and happily than others!) Then when we all get back together I hope there will be wonderful stories to tell over a delicious dinner!

Can you help? I’m looking for information they can find out on the streets – not something (like historical facts) they can find by popping into an internet café and searching google, or opening a tour book! I figure the people here know all kinds of interesting details about Spanish cities, so you are all a wonderful resource!

I hope to put something together for Madrid, Sevilla, Toledo, and Cordoba.

And I’m happy to share my final results!

Here are examples of what I’ve been able to throw together so far this morning:

Madrid:
1. What are the names of the 2 principal soccer teams in Madrid? What are the names of their stadiums?
2. Which metro station is closest to our hotel? What metro line(s) stop there?
3. Based on five blocks near our hotel, what is the average number of bars, cafeterias and restaurants per block?
4. Find a plaque in the ground in the Puerta del Sol with a kilometer marking on it. How many kilometers are there?
5. Which king is on the statue in the Plaza Mayor?
6. How much does the menú del día cost at Casa Botin?
7. What is included in the most expensive menú del día you can find, and how much is it?

Toledo
1. (I got this from another post on this bulletin board!) In the Cathedral’s choir stall, what animal does the monkey feed with a spoon?
2. What is an oblea? Where can you find them?

Sevilla?

Cordoba?

Thanks for any and all help!

Hi Diana

here are some ideas that I put together...I am also thinking of doing a scavenger hunt in Toledo for our first afternoon. I liked your ideas too...let's see if others have some ideas for Cordoba and Toledo. smile

TOLEDO SCAVENGER HUNT

We will meet back in the lobby of the hotel in one hour. The four groups will come back and report their findings then.

1. where is the nearest cyber café and how much does internet connection cost?

2. Find a “kiosko” and list the names of 3 newspapers

3. As a group, buy a magazine and report on something you learned.

4. find out where you can buy stamps for postcards and how much it costs for a stamp to the USA

5. find a mailbox…what color is it?

6. find out where you can buy coffee at any hour…and find out how much a “café con leche“ costs

7. find the Plaza de Zocodover…what American restaurant can be found there?

8. find the nearest bank with an ATM machine

9. What is the name of the black and gold jewelry that is typical of Toledo?

10. Which famous artist lived in Toledo? (His home is now a museum.)

For Toledo:

What objects hang from the ceiling of the cathedral.

Spotting these was always interesting.

Madrid:
What is the story behind La Violeta and where is the store located?

How many Corte Inglés stores are there in the city?

How does one get from Sol to the Prado Museum to the Royal Palace by metro?

Toledo:
How many different kinds of turrón can you name?

On the average, how much does a kilo of turrón cost?

What are the operating hours of the Cathedral?

What is the name of the painting that is located in that famous painter's house?

Sevilla:
The University of Seville sits at the crossroads of which two streets?

What is the most important festival in Seville and when is it celebrated? (I suppose it's a toss up between Semana Santa and La Feria de Abril)

What is the name of the river that runs through the city?

What major international event was held in Seville within the last 15 years. (The 1992 Expo)

What is the name of the regional dance?
