Our family may be moving to Madrid and I am interested in finding out about opportunities for gymnastics instruction for my 9 year old daughter.

Thanks.

The American School of Madrid has an excellent afterschool gymnastics program. I've known the instructor well for many years; she's extremely dedicated and professional, and has excellent contacts with other gymnastics programs in the area, thereby enriching her own. She's also a really wonderful person, and the kids love her!

Thanks very much for the information. Our children would probably attend that school, so it's great news. Our daughter is a level 6 competitive gymnast. If the school doesn't provide that level of training, at least we now know that they can point us in the right direction.

Many thanks

Did you see that a Spanish female gymnast (Patricia Moreno) based in Madrid did win a bronze medal in the floor exercise, Gervasio Deferr won the men's gold in vault (also gold in 2000 in Sydney) and 4th in men's floor exercise, and Victor Cano was 5th in mens' pommel horse. The Spanish women's team finished 5th in the team competition and Elena Gomez finish 8th in the women's all-around.

Yes, but she is not the third best, by far, she was only third because many of the favourites failed. She did even worse than her usual scores.

However, in the very same spanish team, Elena Gómez was clearly superior, and our hope, but it seems she has been terribly unfairly trated by judges, according to the press (there has been almost an scandal in men's gimnastics, about scoring).

Spanish gym team has been for maybe one or two decades among the 10 first of the world, many times between the 5 best.

Patricia learnt at Pozuelo de Alarcón's "Club de Gimnasia Artísitica de Pozuelo", which seems to be pretty good, but seeing her excellence, she was appointed to the CAR (Centro de Alto Rendimiento - High Performance Center) in Madrid, where she trains and lives.

Psh, Ignacio's post is really helpful - the American School (ASM) sits on the border of Aravaca and Pozuelo, and if you're planning to send your children there, you might well live in Pozuelo or the area. (The American expat community is huge there - especially families with children.) It's great to hear there's a good gymnastics club there, and with such outstanding former students! What luck - you couldn't ask for a better location! And getting into the city of Madrid is easy from there.
