1. Find the name of a Best Seller Contemprary Spanish Author and the title of his/her book

2. Find a current Rock Group and their current CD that is listened to in your city

3. What is the closest hospital to Ritz Madrid (Pza. de la Lealtad)?

4. Where is the closest United States Embassy?

5. Do I need a Visa or Passport?

6. How do I get a Visa or Passport?

7. Where is the closest post office to Ritz Madrid (Pza. de la Lealtad)?

8. How will I make calls back to the U.S?

9. What can/cannot I bring into Madrid?

10. What can/cannot I take out of Madrid?

11. Are the electrical outlets different then those in the U.S.?

12. Can I drink the water in Madrid?

13. What is the policy on tipping in a restuarant?

14. Do I need vaccinations before entering the city?

15. Are there any special health considerations that I should know about Madrid? (High altitude, special sunscreen?)

Any links to websites with this information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help

Q12 Can i drink the water in Madrid?
The water in Madrid is excellent. You cannot say this about a lot of places in Spain (I find the Med. coast particularly difficult to find drinkable tap water). I tend to succumb to stomach upsets, but never in Madrid. I put this down to the consistently good water quality here.

Q1. Spanish author and Book.

Manuel el Tramposo wrote the great book Como Copier en un Examen.

Q2. Music question

The only music allowed in Spain is flamenco and Julio Inglesias.

So I recommend you buy ‘Begin de Begin’, as you whistle along you will do so in the knowledge that you do so with half of the Madrid population.

Q3. Spanish healthcare is very sparse although there is a very good doctor in Barcelona. Just ask anyone and they’ll give you directions.

Q4. US no longer has an embassy in Madrid so the nearest one would be in London.

Q5. Visa is recommended although Mastercard is generally accepted at most larger stores. No passport necessary.

Q6. Visa available at most banks or online at any good pornographic content site.

Q7. Man outside Ritz has carrier pigeons if you need airmail otherwise stop any passing horse rider, they are always grateful for an extra peseta or two, and will happily deliver your mail.

Q8. Semaphore station at the top of Main street will help you, although doesn’t work on foggy days.

Q9. Bring plenty of warm clothing. A lot of people have the misconception that Madrid is a warm city!!!! For example today it is only 32º and that’s in Farenheit.

Q10. Bulls. The Spanish will not let you take out any of the bulls, they prefer to keep them to themselves but if you speak to the chap I mentioned in Q7 he will post a couple home for you.

Q11. No electricity here unless you bring your own generator (cost me a fortune in excess baggage when I flew here), otherwise every thing is either gas powered or pulled by donkey cart.

Q12. No DO NOT drink the water. Stick to Cerveza and vino.

Q13. Tipping is strictly forbidden. In fact it is worth being very careful when eating out in Madrid. Firstly, to ingratiate yourself with the staff, you should loudly declare ‘Oy Gringo! Aqui a hora! Tonto!’

Q14. Cholera, rabies, yellow fever, polio all recommended. Hepatis A, B and C an absolute necessity.

Q15. As Madrid is a very wet city, creams and powders against trench foot are recommended. No sunscreen needed, hardly ever sunny unfortunately, and when it very quickly becomes misty as all the surface water evaporates. The altitude can be a problem so be sure to acclimatise yourself before coming, or even better start in Cadiz and work yourself up Spain slowly, you will then only suffer mild dizziness and nausea during your stay.

Hope this helps.

Bwah ha ha! The_Keeper, you must be a member of the Lesser Madrid Movement wink We used to have proponents of a group called Lesser Seattle ("Seattle's rainy season - September to July."), back when the economy was good and Seattle was a trendy place to move to. Good luck in your quest laugh
