I'll be in Madrid late January for 3 nights.
This site has been helpful researching hotels (good work all!)

I can get decent rates at the Hostal Macarena or Hotel Plaza Mayor , both of which seem to be well reviewed on this site. Can someone push me one way or the other? My criteria is clean, interesting neighborhood, and at least a little elbow room in the WC!

Another option I've read about recently on the board is Hostale Lopez which looks interesting too.

I'm temporarily holding reservations at the Best Western Arosa and Carlos V - I got a special rate for these hotels at 100 Euro. Probably not a bad rate for these larger hotels but they seem a bit typical to me - just another hotel. A few years back I stayed at Best Western Santo Domingo - it was OK but nothing to brag about.

So to summarize:
Hostal Macarena , Hotel Plaza Mayor , Hostal Lopez , Hotel Arosa, or Hotel Carlos V ?
