Tracy- Does the alternate spelling of ValleKas have anything to do with Jarrai/Kas? Is that group active in Vallecas? It's been a while since I paid attention, but isn't Vallecas a blue-collar area? If so, active Kas would make sense. Just curious...

The way it was explained to me was that the original spot where Vallecas is now was called "Valle del Kas" so the people who live there now use ValleKas (with a "K") as a sort of funny, local way of writing the name.
I've never heard of Jerrai/Kas...perhaps he/it has something to do with the founding of the barrio.

By the way Tracy, I'm also from Vallecas, and the story about the "Valle del Kas" is just that, a story.
It comes from the leyend of "el moro Kas", but it isn't truth.
I think people like the story of the moro Kas, because it makes the origin of Vallecas more interesting, and that's why they spell it with a K, but to me is just plain irritating. I'm vallecana with C (y a mucha honra).
