There is another flea market near to Estrecho subway station. However, it is much smaller than El Rastro and I don't remember seeing old antiques there (they mainly sell fruit and clothes).

Also some villages in Madrid and in other places have flea markets but I don't know about them.

Yes, you can make decent money. I had a friend who made little pins with leather and she made tons of money. The problem is that in winter people don't go to the Retiro unless the weather is very good so you have to make a lot of money when the weather is good in order to have money when the winter comes.

No boqueron I will not dissapear off this messgae board, no way!!!!!! I plan to leave in January. I will visit the message board hopefully on a regular basis to keep in touch with everybody and help those with questions on coming to Madrid and Spain. Que Viva Espana!!! Ole!!!!!!

You do need a vendor's license to sell anything in Retiro park. I have see the police sweep the place clean on occasion. Imagine a couple dozen or so africans running through the trees with blankets of trinkets rolled up and slung over their backs. That's why they put them on blankets..so they can pack up in a hurry if they have to as I've heard it's very difficult to get the needed license.
