I was just looking at some pictures and video of snow in Segovia and all around Spain - even on the highways in Granada and Almeria - yikes! That looks like a lot of snow this year - Have you guys heard weather reports saying that it might snow in Madrid this year? That would be pretty cool!
Ah, man! It's snowing everywhere in Spain except for her in Madrid! ARGH!!! They said it may rain but no snow in the city. La Sierra de Guadarrama DOES have snow already, though.

WEll Kipper the forecast is for temperatures to be colder this weekend so there's a definite chance . The snow in the Sierras is quite established now as "jamongris" can tell you since he lives up there . MM , as you can see from the 20minutos.es article the single out Ciudad Lineal and Tetuan as the regions that got the brief snow , and you know my apartment overlooks Ciudad Lineal . But it seems strange since Tetuan is in a completely different part of the city .
There as snow in Torrelodones yesterday, and it was pretty damn cold. I am in Bilbao at the moment and there is snow on the mountains here as well, but in the city it is just plenty of rain as usual.
@steve robinson, I see you wee from Southend, grew up in sunny sunny Benfleet!!

Daniel .. wow !!!! Pleased to meet you .. A fellow Essex Boy on-line . Actually I was born in Stanford-le-Hope !! But lived most of my time in Southend . You're in Bilbao for work or pleasure ? I have Basque friends and have been there a few times ... VERY different to Madrid but I've got to like it . Initially I couldn't quite work it out . I actually have my idea of a dream living location as San Sebastian ( Donostia ) ... A buzzing city and by the sea ... I REALLY miss the sea !
You are right, it is very different to Madrid. There are plenty of things I like here, but especially the pintxos :-) Some of the bars though are to be avoided, especially in the old part of town.
I think my dream location would be a renovated farm house in Asturias. Somewhere where my mobile phone did not work.
Thanks Steve Robinson....we'll actually be near Segovia this wekekend, in the pueblo of Domingo Garcia where my friends have a house. I hope, hope we do have snow....

De nada Kipper ...Daniel it sounds like you're a busy guy but maybe we'll get to meet for a drink one day and gloatover the fact we escaped Essex ! I don't know much about Asturias though they filmed the recent series "Senora" there and the scenery was absolutely stunning ! My flatmate ( from Alicante province ) always talks about how beautiful Asturias is . Oh , and I hear you about the mobile phone ! I worked 20 years as a financial trader in London and managed never to own one ( much to my Japanese management's horror ) . I have one now but my contact list is all friends and NO business ! Steve
Steve, 20 years in London without a mobile? I used to work on the trading floor of a bank doing IT support, although mobiles were banned there (insider trading worries apparently) they still issued them, mine never stopped ringing. Since then i have always been stuck with a company phone. :-( Although it is good not having to pay a mobile phone bill, the downside is that your boss can phone whenever he wants!
Anyway, seeing as this thread is about snow... More snow is falling in Bilbao at the moment, in the mountains only still.

CascadaduSel ... I just took a walk to Retiro Park .. It's breathtakingly beautiful !!! And yes I have photos which i'll post . This is NOT just a sprinkling of snow here ! It's been snowing since one o'clock this morning ( when I arrived home ) . LOt's of snowmen being built in the park . 1,205 flights have been cancelled from Barajas ( Madrid ) and 2 motorways closed down . Praise , I think , should be given to the guys that control Metro de Madrid ( The underground train service ) .. They had salted the entrances and exits to the metro stations well before midnight last night . THose stairways can be lethal at the best of times , so good job Metro de Madrid !! Steve
I just got back from downtown Madrid too. Beautiful snow!!!! FINALLY!!!!
Will post pictures later today, must take a post-lunch nap  now since I only slept about 3.5 house last night, staying up 'til 6:30am watching the USA BCS NCAA Championship football game. I'll also post a blog entry link here later when it's up.
Saludos, MadridMan

The photos are magnificent! The Sabatini Gardens photo should be on a magazine cover. I enjoyed seeing it in October with the falling leaves. Now to return to see it with new growth in the spring!
Thanks for posting...and for the other photos as well.
Just found a good video of yesterday's snowfall overlooking the Royal Palace and Sabatini Gardens. Apparently, the 1-minute video was taken by a resident through their window. It's quite pretty!

I haven’t seen any articles but I imagine there must have been hundreds of snow related traffic accidents ... did all the buses circulate? Those poor unaccustomed drivers... I hate snow driving - I imagine snow driving with a bunch of other people who had never driven in the snow on mostly unsalted roads must have been awful!
And it's snowing again today in Madrid - but not like before. This morning, the flakes were those big, fat, fluffy flakes you get when the temperature is just below freezing (for those of you whom know your snow).
Saludos, MadridMan

IT'S SNOWING AGAIN IN MADRID!! Big, FAT, heavy flakes about half the size of your palm are falling with high velocity from the sky. I have to admit that they don't taste very good, though. hehee... Not the same as snow falling in the countryside. But it certainly is pretty!
It had been raining all night long and just about an hour ago turned to mostly snow. So far, unless the temperature drops more, it's not sticking to the ground.
I HOPE IT SNOWS ALL DAY! Sunday (or Saturday) snow is the best kind because fewer people on the roads, fewer people going to work, etcetera.
Saludos, MadridMan
