Jo, this is especially for you and me... I finally understand all the lingo involved with the lottery here in Spain (can you tell that I´m not a real gambler?!
)
Ok, referring to the lottery tickets sold by the blind vendors for the O.N.C.E... or in the little ticket booths.
You will notice that all of the individual tickets are part of a sheet of other tickets with the same number. This entire sheet is called a "billete" and is comprised of exactly 10 tickets, referred to in Spanish as "décimos" (one tenth) or "cupones".
Each sheet, or "billete" has a 5-digit number assigned to it which ranges from 00000-99999. This 5-digit number appears on each of the 10 individual tickets or "cupones"
There are numerous copies of these sheets produced for the lottery, and each copy has a unique series number (série). This series number also appears on each of the 10 individual tickets.
So, for example, let´s take the number 12345. We know that there are 10 tickets with the number 12345 on a sheet. However, this sheet is reproduced numerous times and each reproduction is a specific series. So, aside from the number 12345, a series number will also be included on the individual ticket which will identify where it was sold. So, there may be xx number of tickets numbered 12345 (many series reproduced), but there will only be 10 tickets numbered 12345 with the series number 1 for example.
In addition to the series number (série), and the billete number, each individual ticket "cupon" or "décimo" also has a unique number assigned to it, I suppose 1-10.
So while there are xxx numbers of tickets with the sheet or "billete" number 12345, there are only ten tickets with the sheet number 12345 pertaining to series 1 and only one ticket with sheet number 12345 pertaining to series 1 and ticket number 1.
Do you follow me or am I confusing you more?
So, summing up, each individual ticket (cupón or décimo) has three numbers on it: the ticket number, the sheet (billete) number and the series (série) number.
Having got all this lingo straight, Ignacio´s statistical break out makes much more sense to me!!!
I hope others have found this post helpful!
