The heraldic symbols on the Spanish flag have puzzled me for years. Can someone explain their meaning for us.

AL though im not sure about the Color meaning Red and Yellow. I do know what shield part means the two collums represent Ceuta and Gibraltar or the pillars of hercules it also has the symblo of Castilla Leon and on the bottom left I believe you see the Naval symbol the crown is self explantory. Im pretty sure.Any way what does the red and yellow represent blood and fire?

i have always heard it is for sangre y oro. blood and gold.

Judging from old paintings I'v seen, I would guess that the red and gold stripes are a symbol of Aragon. The chains and the eagle I know nothing about. A little more help from our spanish friends and we'll have the mystery solved.

Does any one know how the Spanish Flag. And why the Catalan flag has red and yellow stripes as well is this just concidence. Did some one just come up with it or some thing?

did anybody notice that spain has 18 flags.
17 for each region and 1 thats for the whole spanish nstion(states according to the nationalists).
AND
did anybody notice the Bazko flag closely resembles the great old brit flag.

Yeah I noticed that it does very much resemble it. They are the "diferent ones" the ones that don't into the latin sphere. Heeheeehe Basque are cool though I just dont like their seperatist ideals.(hmm mabey I sould stay away from that I dont want Cali Basco on my butt.) Any how as for the Basque flag and the British Union Jack um I find the simalarities between the two flags quite disturbing.

The chains were the symbol of the former basque kingdom of Navarra.

The red stripes in the catalonian shield, I heard they come from when catalonia was ruled by a noble (¿count?) and was a vassal of ¿Charles the Great franck kingdom? I heard that, because of some heroic action the king dipped his hand in the count's blood and gave the red stripes to the shield.
