Strawberry tree?? I don't think so!
I can't believe MadridMan's reply about this symbol of Madrid (in the Puerta del Sol). eek

Sorry, I can't give you the story behind the Bear and Berry tree. One of our Madrileņo friends might be able to fill you in on that.
P.S.
I have a ceramic dish hanging on my kitchen wall - It shows the Bear and Berry tree with MADRID written below. rolleyes

Eddie, you can't believe my response to the original poster's message? hehehe... Come on, Eddie. How well do you know me by now?? wink I was asking about what/which bear and strawberry tree he was asking... since I didn't see a city/location siting which particular "bear and tree". hehehe.. sorry. :o

jeffperez62, you can read all about the story of Madrid's symbol, The Bear and the Berry Tree (El Oso y El Madroņo) in the thread titled " el oso y el madroņo (Madrid's city symbol) " in the "About Spain" forum (I used the SEARCH link above/right to find it)... to where I've just moved this thread.

Saludos, MadridMan

Hey! It is not a strwaberry tree! wink

The tree is called "Madroņo" (aproximately pronounced in english "Madronio"). Their fruits are "madroņos", they are red, 2 cm of diameter and are wrinkled and very sweet smile

The "Oso y el Madroņo" is the symbol of the city of Madrid, it appears in our flag and our "coat of arms" (is this the translation?).

Fernando, the American Heritage Dictionary says the madrone tree is also known as a strawberry tree!

Ups! Blame on me smile

I understood "strawberry tree" as a tree with strawberries (that it is obviously not). Sorry for the incorrection wink
