Thanks, Antonio. I will probably wait until Saturday and check out the Prensa Espan~ola.
And yes, Nuria, the Banco de Santander does have a branch office in NYC. I remember seeing it but I don't recall exactly where it is/

No. 49.740 sold in Administracion de Segovia gets the big prize. For me: Nada! I didn't win anything this year; I'll keep on trying.

I was in Covarrubias (Burgos) several weeks ago & bought a "Loteria Nacional ticket" in the tourist office for 500 ptas. The actual "juego" is stated as 400 ptas (100 ptas additional was for a charity). According to the list of winning numbers, my number wins 150,000 ptas. Can anyone tell me what my 400 ptas ticket is worth & do I have to go back to the tourist office to claim the winnings?

JDR, I'm sorry to tell you that you didn't win so much. 150000 pesetas is for the whole "billete" which means 10 "décimos". You play 3000 pesetas in each "décimo" and thus, you win 15000 pesetas for each winning décimo. Since you only played 400 pesetas, you win only 2000 pesetas. Unfortunately, you have to go to the tourist office to claim those 2000 pesetas but I don't think it's worth to do it. You have 3 months only to get claim for it. Anyway, congratulations for winning the lottery. Regards, Antonio ------------------ The best tips from your favourite hostal in Madrid. Hostal Chelo at http://www.chelo.com

It's about time to resurrect this topic:I'm just curious how the little choirboys are going to sing the lottery prizes now with the advent of the euro. I remember them singing (years ago) "125.000 pesetas" as they would draw the non-gordo winners. Somehow, "mil euros" doesn't have the same song-like ring to it... Que me toque el gordo, ¡y que no se arme la gorda!

LOL! I'll never forget waking up (with hangover) to that sing-song chanting on TV in my madrilena fiance's parents' apartment. She and her family were all gathered round the TV (at nearly full volume!) while I was trying to sleep off the previous night's overindulgences. Having to listen to that with a hangover is true torture!

David: Nothing quite like pounding down the paella, chomping on chipirones and then hearing, from EVERY TV in the barrio, "ciento veinticinco mil pesetas" sung by the Madrid version of the Vienna Boys' Choir.
