Can any one tell me if there are any antique shops in the Madrid downtown area? Are there any flea markets or area of antique stores in Madrid? I am interested in porcelain and pottery.

Every Sunday there is "El Rastro" the fle market. It is quite large, and even heard someone say that it is one of the largest in the world.

Ask around or look it up in guide books. It is worth a look. You can find "almost" everything there. Everytime I go I always find something to buy.

PS: watch your wallet/purse.....it can get quite crowded.

Apart of the flea market on Sundays, in this same area there are a lot of antique shops, most of them (if not all) open on Sundays, too.

Be careful, because there are all kinds of shops, from very reliable to "Honest Joe's"-type. And always discuss the price, don't pay what is marked (if it is).

You'll also find antique shops in the barrio Salamanca.
