Is Spain now requiring student visas for United States citizens?? I am very worried because my friend, studying in Paris this summer, mentioned that France now requires them. I will only be there for two months, studying only for one and I have a current passport - any knowledge about this? Or where I could look?

Hi Lindsey,

You're safe. If you've got a current US passport, then you can legally stay for as long as 3 months in Spain. I googled for student visas and found this page for the NY Consulate that talks about how to get a student visa. It says on the page that a visa is mandatory for anyone studying in Spain for more than 3 months. Here's another site with some info about student visas.

It doesn't look like things have changed since I studied there in 2001-2002. Make sure your US passport doesn't expire before you come back into the US though. You'll have trouble getting back in if it does.

Hope you have a great time smile !
