The Spanish "lisp" came into being during the 17th century. Before that it was either a "ts"/ç or a "dz"/z sound (voiced stops): "Coraçón" (Cor-at-son) --> Corazón or "Fazer" (Fad-zer) --> Hacer. The only Romance languages that I know that still preserve the "ts" sound is Italian and maybe Catalan.
