well I know there have been many posts about this topic but I have some information that I thought might be useful to those that are considering or wanting to teach english in a foreign country, especially Spain. I have found the International House in Madrid and it offers the CELTA certificate program. It is 2 months long and is 180,000 pts, (around 900 to 1,100 depending on the exchange rate) the fee includes everything. I have spoken with them in Madrid and I think I have narrowed it down to them. I have been on the hunt for a long time on trying to find a school that offers the TEFL or CELTA or any english teaching certificate and this was the best price and location!!!!!!! any questions let me know and I will send you all the information they sent me on the program. I hope this information was valuable to you guys!!!!!!!!!!!

Missmadrid-- what is CELTA? My students many times ask about teaching English in Spain, and I don't have good answers for them. Hope your experience is GREAT!!

CELTA is a certificate that shows you have been trained to teach english in a foreign country, it's just like the TEFL certificate and TESOL and a few others.

I did my CELTA with International House, Barcelona.

it is actually ONE month long, unless they have inexplicably changed it.
and yes, you will find that doing it in spain is cheaper than even eastern european countries...who are trying so hard to *appear* western with their prices. long live spain!

it is very accepted around the world....it is 40 hours a week (mas o menos) and about 4 weeks long. and it is INTENSE! but if i could do it anyone can.

i met americans while in barcelona, many of them were doing black work teaching and trying to string together as many jobs as possible to get by. it wasnt something i wanted to go through so i left barcelona <sniff!>

but as we all know you CAN work in spain illegally. and if you are interested a CELTA would be a good idea, especially if you want to pursue teaching for a little while, inside or outside Espana.

ok, bye and later
brian
