I wouldn't think you'd need to worry too much, really. It's not like an English, Irish, or Australian football match. While the Spanish fans are passionate it rarely leads to violence.
Saludos, MadridMan

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2007/12/06/nosplit/ufnbelgrade106.xml This was the intimidating atmosphere in which we were to go into to watch the Red Star Belgrade v Bolton wanderers game in the UEFA cup last thursday, for football fans like me who going into europe to watch your favourite team play, is an absolute scandle, if this went on in England we would be thrown out of the european competitions and rightly so,but there was never a mention of it being called off, but when we got there i have never seen as many riot police in one place, and i must admit i felt a lot safer even though we were JAILED in hotel near the airport for 7hrs and taken to the ground 3hrs before kick off, and escorted back to the airport straight after the game anyway i felt safe after being very apprehensive for a few days before and to cap it all off we won 1-0 hurrah! http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_2949776,00.html

FYI, if I may, check the Real Madrid Schedule on MadridMan.com & FC Barcelona Schedule on BarcelonaMan.com for upcoming games this season. Next matchup between these two great teams is May 7, 2008 - unless they change the date - in Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in Barcelona. Saludos, MadridMan

In general there is not too much to worry about. That said, UltraSur and skinheads are in the area around the stadium and have caused problems (a group with a couple black US students were assaulted in 2006 after a game - had gone to dinner first, so this was about two hours after the game ended).

Thank you, to all who replied to my concerns about safety at the Real Madrid c FC Barcelona match.
All went well. I had purchased the tickets through barcelona-football-tickets.com and they were wonderful to work with.
