My family and I are going to Madrid in 2 days, and we'll be staying at the Senator Gran Via. I was wondering if dry cleaners are easy to find in downtown Madrid, and if we need to wash clothes, are laundromats available? We're so used to traveling in the U.S. where hotels have laundry rooms and dry cleaning services readily available. I have no idea what to expect in Madrid.

Most hotels and many hostales in Madrid have laundry and dry cleaning services. There are also self-service laundries, like OndaBlu.

Plenty of self-service laundromats available in the area. Not on Gran Via itself, rather the small side roads.

When you check-in, ask who at the front desk. They will tell you where it is and how to get to the closest one. I believe is five blocks away and I used it when I was in Madrid.

I think it would be cheaper to by detergent at a local store instead of the one they sell at the Laundromat only if you are doing like two or three loads of laundry.

There are several laundromats not far from Gran Vía area. You will find them at the following streets:

Pelayo, Barco, San Joaquín, Hortaleza (84), Válgame Dios...

However, the cheapest laundramat I know is located at Cervantes, 1, near Plaza de Santa Ana.

I guess you are talking about the one at León, 3. It is still opened, but the laundromat just round the corner at Cervantes is cheaper.
