As long as you have the "bottoms" you should be fine. "Tops" are often optional :p on beaches. However, at swimming pools I believe they're more encouraged.

Well in a swimmingpool you where binkini ore suite. On the beaches you can suntan topples but iff you see nobody toples then don't do it. There are in Spain also a lot of nude beaches ore mixed ones.

Which swimming pools? I supose you refer to the indoor swimming pools, because I've seen topless women in every outdoor swimming pool of Madrid.

Like someone else mentioned there are pleanty of nude beaches and of course you won't have to waste your money on a swimsuit there.

But as always when in Rome, do as romans. If your don't see anyone without top don't be the unique one! Swimming-pools for kids or zones where children are majority are places to avoid nudity too. And at last, it would be very very shocking for people if you go to "chiringuitos" (restaurants and bars near beaches) without top.

The opposite applies too: don't be the only one to wear a swimsuit in a nudity zone! It is very unpolite

As for the style, it is similar to what I saw in the States. Anyway, you won't regret buying a swimsuit here once you have seen what people wear and what is sold in shops
Keep in mind that we are a very sunny country used to be on the beaches/swimming pools for almost four months a year.
