Just returned from first trip to Madrid. What can I say! Everything and more I expected. Including meeting a lovely Spanish chica, Luisa, who gave me a guided tour of her beutiful city at 5am!-In all honesty 50% of th reasoning behind returning at easter.
Goya Apartamentos were very good for the cheap price. Service excellent. 15 mins by tube to centre. No rip of prices like in the square at Sol.

Now I need a hostal near to Canalejas area if anyone can help me. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. My love life may just depend on it!
Thanks Madridman for THE best Madrid site out there. smile

Hi amonline! Welcome to the group and thanks for the feedback about Apartamentos Goya. That's really great.

So you're now looking for a hostel in the Canalejas area of Madrid, right? You mean the Plaza de Canalejas, correct? If so, there are a number of hostels in this zone. Confirm your location and I'll give you a short list.

Saludos, MadridMan

Actually I got the spelling wrong. It's Canillejas. Follow the Calle de Alcala from the north side of Parque Retiro and you en up in Canillejas just before hotting the road out of the city east towards Zaragoza and Barcelona,or so my map suggest anyway!

Anyone speak Spanish? What does this mean: te devoraba y te comía?
I can't find it in any dictionary and it's driving me nuts!
By the way has anyone else had problems with high prices at Sol?
PS How fabulous is El Museo del Prado!

How fabulous is the Prado? This is one of the great museums of the world. Don't try to see it all in one day. Go in the afternoon for several hours and go back the next day and see the rest. There is a free day every week andI think it rotates on Mondays. There are three great art museum in Madrid and the Prado is something not to miss even if you don't like art. You will see paintings there you have seen all your
life and didn't know where the original was at. Sorry this sounds like a mother and a professor. How can I help it!! Both are true wink smile

Sorry to confuse. My "How fabulous is the Prado" was a comment not a question!
Still need some help on a hostal in Canallejas area, near Barajas. Are there any hostals in this area or do I need to look closer to the centre? I would like to be near to my new found amiga!

Seems to me many people in the past have looked for hostels near Barajas airport, but without luck.

Have you done a search (see link above/right) with the keywords BARAJAS HOSTAL yet? Might be worth a try. There are plenty of hotels in the area, but they're going to be MUCH more expensive than hostels. You may have to just wait until you arrive and see what's available and hope they have rooms! Good luck!
