Just a little tip. I went to Spain last March with 12 college students, we started in Madrid, and worked our way to Segovia, El Escorial, Barcelona, and Valencia. We decided instead of lugging suitcases around with us, we took hiking backpacks, and even though they were heavy at times, they worked wonders, they were so much easier to get in and out of the trians busses and subways. I'm glad to hear that hiking backpacks worked well for you! I am planning on using one. Was there any problem trying to get a place to store them while riding on a train? I am taking the Talgo from Madrid to Barcelona and I wanted to make sure that my bag would fit in the storage area.
