Depends where you're going. As a rule: Colder in the centre, wetter in the north, snowier higher up, warmer and sunnier in the south, especially near the coast.

During the days, with sunny weather, you might be lucky and temperatures might go up to 70, but at night, it can go down to 40 or even colder. Don't forget warm clothes. It is still beautiful...

I did this in December once....very cold. I won't be doing that again. You probably won't encounter any snow but expect to freeze walking around anywhere outside. Bring a heavy coat!

Hello,
I think winter just arrived. In Madrid it`s being raining the whole day and it is getting cold. In a couple weeks or earlier we`ll have snow in the high mountains, days will be very short and nights long and cold.
I want the summer back...

Melaniebrenda bring your scarf with you and some T-shirts for the south.

Regards,
Celia

We spent our Christmas break in Portugal a couple of years ago & it rained every day for two weeks.... so bring a good waterproof raincoat & umbrella & changes of sox as the drainage in Lisbon left us ankle deep a couple of times. However, the museums & sightseeing spots were great as the # of tourists was low. Have a great time!

All the above postings are so true - cold, often wet, but the BIG PLUS is not a horde of tourists and the Christmas and pre-Christmas season has a magical quality. Have fun - stay warm!

Absolutely right, Puna. Even though it could get chilly, I LOVE Madrid in December. It is just an entirely different atmosphere.
And long periods of uninterrupted rain are still not typical for Madrid.
Compared to Northern Europe or the Northern part of the United States (as for the US, I can just speak for the North East coast), for my taste the weather in Madrid as well as in Southern Spain is still substantially better in winter. Just be prepared not to expect summer. As long as you bring warmer clothes and have heating in the hotels, you will be fine.
