What is the easiest and least expensive method of calling home? My daughter and niece will be doing the obligatory post college european tour in August. We already plan to use internet, but what about quick phone calls?

Hi bob serabin! Welcome to the group! You might want to start by reading through the thread in this forum entitled "Calling cards".

i suggest using the payphone and putting money in that is the cheapest way. put in 100.00 pts dial the number and the phone shows you how much time you have so it just doesn't hang up on you. if you put in 300.00 pts you can talk for for a few minutes, i have always found this easy and cheap, no hassling with the spanish operators or trying to figure out how to use the cards, i just put in the pts and talk. and if you want to talk to them for like 2 minutes to see how it's going it will cost like 2.00 dollars at the very most. that's just how i do it, some people prefer different ways. but i have always found that really easy and cheap

I used to buy calling cards when I was in England last year and I think they were a rip off. I bet they are the same in Spain. They are not as cheap as they advertise.

Just a tip. Wait until 8:00 pm. to call abroad is much cheaper. Also, to call to the USA is even cheaper between 3:00 am. and 8:00 am.

Regards,

Antonio

I recommend you get a calling card from your current long distance carrier in the USA, it might be ATT, MCI, SPRINT, etc. In the past, I have found this the best (cheapest and reliable) way of calling home.
