does anyone know where to find American food in Madrid? both supermarkets and restaurants (but not restaurants which are part of a chain)

Im specifically thinking about items such as american meats, pies, peanut butter, sour cream, etc...

thanks for any input

Hi Cayetano!

I heard about "The Taste of America" but I never went to that shop.

Have a look to this site:

Expatica

There is another shop called "The American Store" .

When I lived in Madrid many years ago as a student, it initially took me and my roommates awhile to get accustomed to the food. So, we often went to El Corte Ingles to find familiar food from home. They have a supermarket where you can find a lot of different foods from around the world.

I have been to Taste of America - they have the name brands we are used to ... smuckers, jiffy peanut butter, kraft, etc.. but they are pretty pricey... I agree with La Historiadora - the Corte Ingles has alot and are cheaper that the smaller stores ... wow that is first - the Corte Ingles being less expensive than somewhere else :-)

Thanks. I am a Spaniard so have no problem getting used to the food in Madrid, I love it. However, having lived abroad I do like to indulge in foreign food every now and then. I have easy access to two Corte Ingles shops, one in Nuevos Ministerios (near work) and one in Callao (near home). None of them seem to have a great range of foreign foods (I was not able to find sour cream for example)

Fass has small containers (slightly bigger than a standard yogurt container) of sour cream. I think I have also seen it at Carrefour on occasion. I lived around the corner from the Taste of America on Serrano at Republica Argentina (not too far from Nuevos Ministerios) and regularly bought bagels there.

For restaurants try Alfredo's BBQ (two locations).

I agree with CascadaduSel about the Princesa store; that's the one I used to go to!
