On Monday, the series "Bizarre Foods" on the Travel Channel will visit Madrid and Barcelona. (Monday 3/19 9:00pm eastern time.) From what I can tell from the promo, the foods are not that bizarre for most of us who visit Spain, but the rest of the world may find cochinillo or pulpo shocking.

They will visit Botin, Museo del Jamon and La Paz Market among others. I was very excited to see my favorite Madrid hangout, "La Zapateria" included with a very good friend featured in the commercial!

There are more details on the Travel Channel website.

I tried a lot of typical Spanish food, but I am not sure about the names... is that the bloody sausage!? Pls remind me.
For sure I will never forget churros! hihi

About the pigs brain, in my country it's popular to fry it. I've never tried it, always kept saying that I have enough of it inside my head and I don't need additional smile

Mongo, thanks so much for posting this! I am really excited to see this show, especially after just being in La Boqueria in Barcelona a few months ago. I'm sure it will inspire me to try some new foods on my next trip to Spain. wink

Hello:
About bizarre foods.
In Cuenca they eat "zarajos", this is lamb guts (the small intestines only), they clean them carefully and roll them around two wine shoots, then they grilled them.
In many places people eat "caracoles" (snails), prepared with different sorts of sauces, usually hot sauces. I find them disgusting, although French people consider them a delicatesse.
However, the bizarre food only represents a very very small part of Spanish cuisine. We don't eat those things very often, really. wink

I happened to catch a rerun of this episode tonight on the Travel channel....I was dissapointed that Andrew Zimmern mispronounced many of the the names of the foods and even mispronounced La Boqueria market in Barcelona!

Anyway, I think I saw Andres of Walks of Madrid escorting Andrew around Madrid for a tapas crawl...Can anyone confirm this? Andres used to post here alot, but I have not seen him around for quite some time.....

laduque

I watched the show tonight with Andrew Zimmern in Madrid. Still did not enjoy it much. But that was Andres as Zimmern guide in Madrid.

He used to visit MadridMan and I went out with him on a Tapas crawl. Just Andres, some crazy Brit who was funny as hell and me. It was fun! thumbsup

I hope everything ok with him because is now a TV Star.
