There's one on the Gran Vía across the street from Espasa-Calpe (now called casa de libros). The name of the place I don't remember...but, it refers to itself as something with Italian ice-cream (gelato italiano).
There's also a Baskin-Robbins on the street parallel to the one that takes you into Plaza de España.

You can find an ice cream in Palazzo, in front of the Palacio Real and enjoy a beautiful sunset in the JArdines de Sabatini.

Los Alpes, at Arcipreste de Hita, 6 (right near Moncloa, off of Melendez Valdes). When I lived in Madrid my friend lived right across the street and once the weather was nice we would go to Alpes 4 to 5 times per week. In addition to the regular flavors, they have a ton of awesome specialty flavors. Ones I can remember include: carrot, green apple, coconut (my favorite), Ferrero Rocher, and Tiramasu.

OK I haven't checked that one out but so far I've been pretty disappointed with the offerings available,I'm not a big fan of American Ice Cream (too sweet and bland) and only a few places offer cones. Rather surprisingly Germany is the king when it comes to Ice Cream. Every city and village has an ice cream parlour (run by Italians) and serves up fabulous creations. The cones (tiny by American tastes) are cheap 60 - 75 cents and taste fabulous, once you've had real italian ice you'll never go back to Ben and Jerrys or Dairy Queen.
I don't like American flavours (too sweet and too bland) as I've been

Another good one is Sienna, owned by a family of Argentines. It's a classic ice cream venue in the Retiro area. Located on Calle Narvaez, almost at the corner of Ibiza. Nearest Metro stops: Ibiza or Goya.

If you're at Bernabeau, check out Freddo Freddo on Padre Damian. It's about three blocks north of the stadium. They claim not to be related to the justly famous Freddos of Buenos Aires.

My favorite is also Sienna...but I go to the one on Alcala (near c/Maestro Alonso...by the plaza de toros) and also on Sancho Davila. I wonder how many they have? There's also a pizzeria/heladeria in Alameda de Osuna named Sienna...not sure if it's the same owner as the center ones.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the BEST place for ice cream in Madrid.
I don't know its name, but it is in Plaza Santo Domingo. I think it is next to a parking garage.
The BEST !!!

The parking garage in Santo Domingo is no more. It got torn down a few months ago. I was never a big fan of their ice cream, but I think it was called Alicante or something like that. Maybe they are relocating...

Loved Ricci on Huertas!!! Went there three nights in a row. The flavors vary somewhat from day to day -- pistacchio was great.

I completely second Esperanza's and Madrid in May's recommendation of Ricci's. Their ice-creams claim to be 100% natural, which is why they change everyday, depending on the fruits they buy.... My favourite? One which name are some initials (all the names are in Italian) but that consisted of orange, lemon and carrot, if I remember correctly. Mmmmm....
