We'd love to find a bar or liquor store to have a taste of absinthe while we're in Madrid and then in Andalucia. Does anyone know where to find some? Thanks!

Hi kitt! That's a good question. Seems there was some discussion about this more than a year ago, but my search has yielded nothing.

While not positive (maybe one of the madrileños or the Andalus can help), but I don't think it's even still available for public consumption. Spaniards!! I'd like to know too! It's a curious topic and thanks for bringing it up, kitt. Hope someone knows.

During my travels throughout Europe, I only found two countries where I could obtain absinthe. They were Portugal and the Czech Republic. Nasty tasting stuff. My friend took 3 bottles back to the States. Today's version is quite weak compared to about 100 years ago, when it was known for driving people insane.

In Sevilla you can drink it in El Rinconcillo. Its also the oldest tapas bar in Spain.

A good place in Madrid to drink Absinthe is "Alhama", close to Descalzas Reales, s Square, but better try to be discreet when you ask for it.
