We are taking a group of students to Madrid this summer and the woman I am leading the group with remembers taking the telerifico to a zoo and amusement park where they enjoyed themselves until midnight. I don't see any mention of these places in the archives (except the reference made to the telerifico in MM's article on Spain). I found the telerifico's schedule (it says it ends at 10pm now), but I don't see any mention of the amusement park. Fodor's makes mention of it, but says it is a 1 mile walk one way to get there from, I'm assuming here, the Metro stop and that you have to ask directions. I can't believe that a zoo and amusement part would be kept so secret that one would have to ask for directions!
I've never been there...what do you folks know about this place?

Go! The kids will love it. Zoo Madrid is great - nice aquarium, dolphin show, animals arranged by continent. The amusement park is a blast - loads of good rides, concerts at night, lots of fun. I don't think it's that far from the metro (but I admit I always drove there). Both of these places are very popular and will get crowded. The Teleferico is a pleasant ride. I think it's kind of far to walk to the other two from the teleferico. The Casa de Campo, the piece of land all these things are built on, is HUGE.

(Do try another search. We have "talked" about these places before. This board is becoming HUGE as well!)

Diana's right. I do recall talking about many of these places before when parents were asking where they could take their kids for a good time.

la maestra, what article of mine are you talking about? My Daily Online Journal from my past trips maybe?

I think the kids would get a kick out of El Teleférico and have heard GREAT things about El Parque de Atracciones , the Zoo/Aquarium , AND the vast Casa de Campo (during the day) is great for hiking its dusty hills and cooling off by the lake for a Coke at a terraza. There's also a cool terraza at the "Get On" of El Teleférico on the Casa de Campo side, looking down into the valley between it and the city.

Have fun!! Saludos, MadridMan

MM, it was one of the sites I found when I did my search...you were sort of a featured writer, as I recall.
Is Arguelles the best metro to take to get to the park? I don't even see the Casa de Campo on my map, and neither Fodor's nor Eyewitness mention the amusement park by name!
Thanks for the help! I'm supposed to be the Madrid specialist on this trip and I hate to have to tell them that while I lived there I was either studying, enjoying the nightlife, or leaving town to see the rest of Spain! I never looked at the city like the leader of a group of teenagers might!

cool la maestra, AHA! Yes, I know the site to which you are referring. I was honored to be invited to submit my "MUST DOs in Madrid" for PBS's (public television in the USA) Going Places: Madrid website (PBS television show by the same name).

You can read my little write-up HERE !
